I am quite good with money and my only debt is my mortgage. I think you should speak to a financial advisor for a way to make life easier for you.

Zero dept,

get your mortgage paid of as quick as you can even although extremely low interest rates

If you can, pay as much into your pension AVC's as you get 40% tax back,

so if you pay in £600 a month from your wage, £1000 goes into your AVC fund,

if you pay £1200 per month, £2000 goes in.

find a good paying job and work hard.

Good advice. Get help early. Tell the people you owe money to, especially if interest is accruing. Citizens Advice is always a good place to start, as well as Gemap (dot co dot uk).

Sorry, Gemap is Glasgow-centric but there's likely similar in Aberdeenshire.

worked on the oil rigs for 30 years I am fully aware of the industries salaries

there are better paying jobs but I prefer the 30 weeks holidays a year working 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off home leave

I too work in the oil industry so yeah not a bad paying job but the more you earn the more you spend, well in my case anyway lol.

Think I’m going to remortgage which I know makes a 5 year debt into a 25 year debt but at least it buys you breathing space and chance to live each month.

Average wage is only about 16k

Plenty of folk working full time earning well below that as well sadly

Debt arrangement plans are good if done through charities, trust deeds etc sound like a good idea but they're only good if you're in negative equity for your home, there's lots of I formation folk don't really understand about it, depending on your personal circumstances you would be surprised at how much support companies offer to people in debt, they're not so quick to chase people these days and have specialist teams for debt and aren't keen to pass the debts on to collection companies. I was in debt alot of which was because of an ex partner and it took me years to get out of it but thankfully I had a really well paying job so was able to get myself sorted much quicker than most people, I also didn't have a mortgage over my head I'm an advocate for social housing personally it's far less stressful and unless someone has a relatively good expandable income I wouldn't recommend anyone get a 25year debt

Mate I'm 50k in the hole homeless the lot it don't matter a fuck money matters is your best choice if your homeless go council where you are my local council looked after me I spent a week in a dark place dormitory etc but there's light at the next of it take the help that's there and there's a lot less homeless if we all go for the help xxx much love this is hard for me to post but if anyone needs to speak about mental health or issues dm me...

Good place to go for debts advice and help is stepchange. A charity that can sort out payment plans and point you in right direction and no fees unlike some of those debt management companies
