Now xmas is over the media will be churning out the yearly diet and exercise propaganda.

Anyone buy into this and if so which diet worked for you ?

I gym frequently and eat what I think is a balanced diet but wouldn’t mind shifting maybe 4 kilos

I wouldn’t recommend Cambridge, everyone’s weight just yo-yos on it

Mrs has done the slimming world/weightwatchers things. They’re good for long term weight loss, just don’t buy into the branded meals etc they sell.

I use myfitnesspal to log my calories. I generally eat the same thing every day so if The scales don’t move I can adjust my meals accordingly.

It’s more about changing your lifestyle rather than going on a diet. Healthier snacks, drinking more water, you already exercise but may need to change what you do to lose weight.

Why not go to a personal trainer and speak to them. The slimming clubs can work if you stick to them.

I’ve lost over a stone on weightwatchers and hoping to lose more this year. It’s more about will power than anything else.

You can eat loads on slimming world but it was when I started to exercise that my weight loss completely tailed off and I switched to something to support my half marathon training.

It’s £5 a week and there are normally loads of joining offers at this time of year.

Girl I knew did Cambridge but it was all shakes and meal replacement she hated it

Losing weight is the easy bit, keeping the weight off is the tricky part. As someone said already its about lifestyle change rather than diets. Always read food labels as stuff you think may be healthy might be the opposite.

most diets will lose some weight, keeping it off can be a problem. The best way to do things is carb count for average male we need to eat 160g carbs a day whilst dieting bring that down to 120g a day. there are a lot if carb free foods, red meats chicken fish a lot if vegetables. high carb foods are pasta, bread, rice, potato and sugar based foods. a lot of foods have carb content on packaging.but important to eat carbs as well as this is fuel for your body.

3 stone lost on Slimming World. It's about a change in your eating habits forever. I've never felt hungry on the plan nor felt deprived of treats, just been sensible about it. I didn't do any exercise, it was all down to the food I was eating.

Fad diets are not good as when you stop them it all piles back on. It's all about moderation, too much or too little of anything can have opposite effects on your body. And exercise is definitely key can not do one without the other. No one should have to pick and choose what to eat to loose weight that's when diets fail. You should be able to eat what you like but moderately.

What I've learnt that having a citrus and watermelon fruit starter before a main meal is very beneficial, it burns unnecessary fat as well as fills you up to prevent over eating.

I went off food due to running about after everyone, so not enough time to eat most days now in my younger years weight would have fallen off but our older years it does the opposite.

I look at it like the Benjamin button theary... From babies through to toddlers, teenage years, adults under 40 we have had to adjust our eating to fuel our bodies the right way, strengthen bones, , then comes mid life 40 and our eating habits should now go in reverse adjusting our foods to keep our bodies fueled and in good working order, as we age we have to add more fruit more protein more water, more calcium, more this that and the next thing lol the same as when we are teenagers going back to toddlers because once we hit old age we become frail, weakened immunity, weak teeth, bones like a baby and our food needs to change to softer easy to digest foods as our stomachs can no longer cope with hard to digest foods. Which causes problems with our digestive system, astophagus, bowels etc. Our exercise regime has to be lighter but more frequent as we tire like a toddler after too much activity therefor needing a afternoon nap lol. That's my theary and I'm living by it now, our children are fed what they require for their growth, hubby and I are fed what our bodies requires as to prevent any health issues. Sounds crazy and I've probably not explained it properly lol but I'm doing a benjimn button diet lol

I started slimming world in the summer. Lost 6lb in my first week. That shows me it works. I was delighted. Started having cheat days and ruined it though.

I'd like to loose 3 stone at least by April so I will start again and try really hard to stick with it.

Probably the best way will be to break my target down in to small chunks so I feel like I'm achieving more often.

That’s what I did every half stone I set another target even if it was buying a new bit of clothing a size smaller, it makes it more manageable

It’s just that the excess is sitting on my belt. What I considered eating healthy (ish) is probably to much in a portion. So portion control I’ll need to be stricter. Run around 20km a week but on a treadmill so maybe take it outside for a try. Rarely drink alcohol but when I do I like to kick the arse out it. Think they call it binge drinking

Joined the slimming world on a 7 day free plan So come Monday my shopping basket with be all colourful for a change

I sit on my arse for 10 hours a day. Lay down for 7 hours so only active (ish) for 7 all in.

Used to do loads of weight lifting but found it’s effecting my joints now I’m getting on in years.

I’m the opposite, changed to weights about seven years ago due to pains in my joints.

Simplest way I look at weight gain/loss.

For weight loss, eat as much as you can while still losing weight.

For weight gain, eat as little as possible while gaining.

It seems backwards but you want to ensure you don’t drop in to a massive calorie deficit at the start or your weight loss will just get to a point and stall

That’s the bit I’ve never managed to get over. The stalled bit. I’m either toned and muscly but the belt area says no or I slim down but the belt area is like fuck that as well. No matter how many planks, sit-ups and the like I do for targeting that area

You can’t target a certain area for weight loss, just have to stick it out and either drop food gradually or up the exercise time and it’ll eventually come off.

I’ll lose weight quick from my back and arms, but stomach is always last to shift.

I did a cut a few years ago from about 17.5 to 14.5st, nothing fancy just cut carbs out most days had cheat meals etc. it literally felt like one day, boom I’ve got abs.

If you fancy some light reading I recommend Better than steroids.

Not what you’re thinking, it’s all about manipulating food for your benefit. I did all my diet prep from that book. Think it’s by Warren Willey.

I lost 5.5 stone on Slimming World over an 8 month period, through portion control and exercise. Fast forward 5 years and I had struggled to shift the excess weight. However I started again 6 weeks ago on a balanced and healthy diet (again working on portion control) and now dropped 2 stone and 2 dress sizes. It is working again due to planning my meals for the week and changing to a lifestyle suitable for my age and not getting too hung up on the numbers (although it is good to see them coming down) and being happy with the energy levels I now have.

Little regular meals is the best way for anyone to loose weight

Weight gain is generally one of the following

Excessive portions

Eating only high fat and sugar foods

Skipping meals regularly

Health issues

I lost 3 stone just eating constantly no exercise but it was when I was working and had everyone and their granny constantly reminding me to eat and eating at the same time all the time now I'm back to skipping meals for days at a time. Herbalife is a good way for me to introduce a balance diet easily into my day without overloading my body with food that I actually ca t digest and gradually increasing food intake, if I eat a proper meal at the moment it can take me days to digest and I feel horrible and sluggish

This time last year I was overweight and was undergoing tests for a medical scare.

Decided to do something about it so being a numbers type guy I went with calorie counting and aimed for 1-2 lbs loss per week.

Cut out all fizzy drinks, biscuits, crisps etc. Also cooked meals instead of microwave meals. Worked on the principal of 2/3 veg to meat ratio.

Also portion control.

By June I had lost 3.5 stone.

For exercise I went for walking over 10,000 steps.

Felt confident to join a gym and working on that last bit getting toned.

It is about changing your lifestyle. I cook a meal for two whenever I cook, takes the same time and saves you time another night.

6yrs ago I lost a bit over 7st doing ww. I kept it off for a few years, but have now put most of it back on.

So my aim for this year is to lose 3-4st, but try doing it on my own. I know what I should and shouldn't be doing, I just need to put it into practise.

Cutting out the food we sell at work would be a good start

Good luck. I lost almost 3 stone with SW. Not been on plan since my hols in September tho so put back on a stone. Away to start again to get it back off. Definitely works and you're never hungry, even converted my kids to like some of the recipes. Plan/shop your meals for the week and only buy in what you need, batch cook if you can and freeze the extra portions for when you don't have time to prep from scratch to save you cheating

I keep boiled eggs, packets of ham and baby plum tomatoes in my fridge for when I get the munchies, better than reaching for the biccys

Well week 2 complete. 5lb lost.

On track and eating more than I was previous and enjoying it.

Down side, missing kicking the arse out the alcohol on a weekend

Pissing more due to all the fruit and veg

Apart from that 10 weeks to go

Obviously I am late to this post and will admit I didn't read every single response but without getting too deep into it, the easiest thing to do is cut out processed foods as much as possible and move more. This is obvs very general advice as everyone has different caloric and exercise needs to reach their goals. Wouldn't recommend any of the diets you buy and be careful about where you get advice, lots of bs on the internet/mags etc.

I'm a Nutritional Advisor and PT so know a fair bit about it.

Ta, yeah I’m back to my running again and enjoying it. Nothing to energetic just 2 half hour treadmill sessions through week and an hour on a sat morning.

Half a stone is excellent. What’s your target to lose ?

"Now xmas is over the media will be churning out the yearly diet and exercise propaganda.

Anyone buy into this and if so which diet worked for you ?

I gym frequently and eat what I think is a balanced diet but wouldn’t mind shifting maybe 4 kilos "

Always think it everything in moderation.

People should beat themselves up for having a bit a binge on chocolate etc

A few sessions of exercises a week and a decent diet should be enough for most. Although must be difficult if trying to lose a lot of weight and sticking to healthier eating if not used to it. Easier said than done!!

Exactly,it's a lifestyle choice, diets are temporary but it takes a change in lifestyle not a diet

I did slimming world when I was 19 and lost 6stone in 6 months. I put it back on and more over the course of two years because I was in and out of boring relationships with lots of takeaway. It's about a lifestyle change and investing in the care of your own body. I'm gonna get back on it when we move into our new house and get slimmer again. It works if you want it to, if you half arse it you won't succeed. Me and my mum were doing it at the same time but she loves a nighttime drink, I lost 6 stone, she lost 2.. go figure

Oh hell yeah. No bs, swears a lot and calls a stupid c**t a stupid c**t! Although in a lot of cases, it's just because people don't know any better. There's a lot of misleading bs out there when it comes to fitness/diets/losing weight!

So after 4 weeks lost 4.4kg. Chuffed with that but on this week 5 nada.

Sticking to what’s been working but why the sudden plateau ?

On the slimming world but notice their ready meals which are good portions and quite tasty have a fair amount of sugar. Same with muller lights 0 % fat loaded with sugar.

Any thoughts or adjustments troops ?

I’m having a good portion of fruit and veg each day with some lean meat and fire though 21 boiled eggs a week as fillers.

Feeling healthier and slimmer but the plateau has me stumped.

It's only one week, don't be too disheartened....could be you're not drinking enough water or needing a right good jobbie!

I'd revisit everything you were doing at the start, has the odd wee snack snuck in, are your portion sizes creeping up a wee bit?

If it stays like that for a few weeks then the SW wifey/bloke should have more advice. I couldn't go back to the clases bit fair play if it's working for you

"Losing weight is the easy bit, keeping the weight off is the tricky part. As someone said already its about lifestyle change rather than diets. Always read food labels as stuff you think may be healthy might be the opposite."
this sounds about right if can't maintain it and be happy as a lifestyle then it's not for you I say

I (Mr) stopped carbs and sugars, steak and eggs for breakfast, you can eat bacon cheese salads but cut the carbs and sugars I lost almost 3 stone and felt better for it. I was suggested to be by my doctor who checked my cholesterol and blood pressure which was still good. Only down side I got what's called keto flu for a couple of days which was pretty shite

1.5 stone lost on my stint on the slimming world regime for 12 weeks. Typically the corona diet will follow and another unwanted stone loss due to being able to get fuck all worthy to eat. My timing was pish if Noubt else.

Enjoyed the variety and new choices the opportunity brought and sliding into my new 30-32 inch jeans with no where to go is traumatic

Just need to try not fall back into old habits.
