"I think we are hard on ourselves, in nature this time is one of celebration (it doesn’t look like it but the days do now get longer ). However to feel that it’s a quiet time, one of hibernation is natural, we need this time of reflection and rest but in our 24/7 excitement filled world it’s not honoured. Everyone needs that quiet time, just be kind to YOU xxx" This is so very true. We are constantly being bombarded with the message that you can be happy having fun all the time as that is what you are seeing on other's social media. Unreal expectations leads to mounting pressure and eventually crushing disappointment. What I've taught my kids, is you can't be happy all the time, you can be contented though. That doesn't mean settling for second best.

"I hate this time of year. Nothing reminds you that you don't have a big family around you or that you're single more than xmas. To combat it, I brought my children on holiday. I thought running away would make it better. I was wrong I've probably felt more lonely out here than I would have at home. My boys have had fun, we have had a few brilliant adventures so that's all that matters. I do think though it gets to this point and everyone is missing the security of routines " I’m sorry to hear that but many would envy you and what you have too

I worked my ass off at two jobs all year to get us here and I've raised my boys single handedly for 10 year's. I've no parents, no siblings and no significant other, therefore I think I'm allowed to feel a little bit lonely

I do think though it gets to this point and everyone is missing the security of routines " I think the festive period is very disorientating in that you make yourself be with family when you would prefer to be alone or you isolate yourself when you would prefer to be with others. My eldest has struggled with Xmas since my dad passed 6 years ago so he isolated himself for so long at Xmas that I don’t think he knows how to celebrate it now but hopefully with encouragement he will learn to let go and join us again. I will always remember a 6 yr old telling me about her amazing Xmas where her and her mother have a picnic Xmas dinner on a blanket in their living room as they don’t have a table to sit at and it’s just the two of them. So Mum made it into such a special thing and this child will always treasure their picnic xmases. I have a massive family so never know the true feeling of loneliness (80 full cousins and that doesn’t count the next 3 generations up and coming!) but can empathize and always offer a hand of friendship to you sinders if you ever need it. Wishing you a amazing 2020 with your lovely boys xxx

We all do at times. It sounds like you’re a strong lady. We all speak from personal experience and I guess I was too. This time of year is also about counting blessings and having a close friend who lost his 11 year old son a couple of months ago has me thankful in particular this year. I’m sure you do too when you look at your boys smiles.

Sounds like you're a fantastic mum and you're doing it by yourself without a family support network, something most of us take for granted. Hope you're proud of yourself because you should be Sounds like you've made some great memories on your trip too
