"this might become law in the near future "selling and buying sex". what they are trying to do in criminalise buying sex and decimalising the selling of sex. now before folks get on their high horse and shoot others down . i will say that having sex for sale is different than selling sex as any one can advertise an item for sale but not sell it but with out a buyer there is no market for the seller, and with no market then the seller goes out of business. so are the folk that make the laws forcing people that want to sell sex out of business by the back door. I am not talking about the slave sex trade as that is a nest of worms and should be banned but folk that want to sell sex. let the rants begin" I totally understand the point you are trying to make here At the moment one person selling themselves and one person buying that person is legal What is trying to come into force is the one buying will be breaking the law - so a LOT of people who chose to frequent ladies of the night or wherever pc name they go by now will be breaking the law and will think twice or more before doing it and as such the whole profession of prostitution will vanish as we know it now Indeed like a lot of things by criminalising it it will make it go EVEN more underground Now what should be made illegal is smoking cos that kills and not just the smoker but that won’t be made illegal as the government get tax from it Perhaps they are actually simply missing a trick (no pun intended) with prostitution

"I'm not sure that there's many that really want to sell sex...more it's an act of desperation. " How many sex workers did you speak to before you settled on that opinion? ![]()

"It’s said to be the oldest profession in the world so why continue to try and stop people from doing it? I’m not saying don’t pursue or prosecute pimps/mistresses that control people or force them to sell themselves continue to challenge the criminal element but I say make it legal where women and men selling it are licensed and required to have health checks, I’m sure there’s plenty of people that work in that industry that are happy doing it. " I think this would help to clean up some of the sex slave trade, maybe more than the steps above however I do think that no Government in this country will be bold enough to push for that. The method now being considered is perhaps the next best thing.

"I seem to recall debates and the setting up of tolerance zones in Leith and Aberdeen. Don't think Leith lasted long as too near residential areas and too many objections. But think Aberdeens was more successful in dealing with some of the issues. Offering support, preventing underage girls etc" The leith zone was going for years and years right back to when the docks were thriving,it was only when the developers moved in that they were punted from the shore. And the blind eye deal was dumped when police Scotland amalgamated.

"IMHO full service sex work (FSSW) should be decriminalised completely - criminalisation of any part of sex work leads to discrimination towards sex workers which leads to the sex industry being forced further underground and the possibility of exploitation is increased. The criminalisation of brothels just leads to more danger for sex workers - they are unable to work in the same building as any other FSSW without it being illegal. Where is the sense in that? It just isolates sex workers making getting help even more difficult. Sex trafficking and consenting sex work are different, and you can have consenting sex workers who would choose to leave the industry and others who would choose to stay. Also, consenting sex workers aren’t “selling their bodies” any more than anyone else under capitalism - labourers, personal trainers, dog walkers all sell their bodies. Anyone who works who thinks they don’t sell their body, I’d like to know what it is you do for a job because if I can stay in my wee hoose and just think my way to earning a wage I would love to hear about it!
