Same. We had the option to put a gas fire in when we got the house. So glad we decided against it!

It’s the visual aspect and also the crackling of the fire

We have a log burner in the living room and absolutely love it.

It's cheaper to run than putting the heating on. £60 for an IBC cage full of seasoned wood. This will last about 6 months constant use.

Only down side it needs emptied ever three days.

For those who have log burners- what are those wee whirly things you see quite often on top. Are they just decoration?

Nah ... it's a fan that works with convection so when the fire heats up the fan starts spinning and throws out hot air making it even more efficient at heating the hoose

There something warming about the crackling of burning wood. The smell and the warmth given off and the flickering light. Nothing beats cuddling up infront of it and stripping

Heck no. My mum had a coal fire back in the day, and the coal bin outside attracted woodlice in droves, scunnered me. The dust and ash was messy too. I'm happy to be able to stay indoors and lazily flick a switch to get the house warm!

Cuddled up under a duvet in the dark, watching movies while snuggling with my man is the best way to keep toasty, though.
