"I’m not entirely surprised at how the unions have failed some of their members"

Tbf, it's not the union that are responsible for setting rates of pay initially

No the council fucked that up well and truly but the unions failed to provide their members with the correct information and also failed to mention the legal fees

it was also the misinformation that got some members only 5yrs instead of 12yrs like their colleagues no wonder they are so angry, but there is something far wrong when the women have been hushed from discussing their payouts also why has it not been broken down for them to be able to see they have got the correct amount or not ?

"How have they been hushed? "

The settlement offer has a non disclosure clause, meaning they can’t divulge what they got

So they've not been hushed, their own greed stopped them from talking?

It's hardly greed if they'd been underpaid for years

Let's just hope the average 9 hours a week men work more and the retirement age are both brought into line with this pay equality

Unions charging 6.9% fee of a £500m payout, looks like their dues didn’t cover legal fees

Unions for the people, eh nope!

Wouldn't waste my time, just more British people crying they've been hard done by but do fk all about it, or accept money at the first sniff and let governments and fat cats line their own pockets!

It was Scottish women, not British people.

And you really would be better being informed before going off on a nonsensical rant

Not having a rant, I'm commenting on a post, giving my opinion based on the information on the post, I've already said I've not seen it, everyone else has commented like they know loads about it which is why I've asked a few questions, since I got no answers I gave an opinion based on what I've read from every one posting!

Does this mean that the men who, for decades, had to work Until they were 65 years old before they could retire can claim sex discrimination because women got to retire at 60?

You'd need to ask the men that made that legislation

1st off i did not see the programme so cant comment on that,

but when a person goes for a job they are offered a rate of pay it does not matter what it is since it is an employers market and they can offer a pittance for x hours and some one will take it ,

if some one else is offered a different amount then they start to moan - why - they agreed to an amount so tuff luck and if they dont like it leave and get a new job .

it has been going on so long that it is now institutionalised the pay gap and employers can offer ever decreasing amounts no matter what the sex .

think everyone should be on same rate of pay and i have worked with 6 female electricians in my career and all were paid the same rate of pay. i have worked some places where i was doing double the amount of work as others and being paid the same amount as lazy gets but my high work ethic i have agreed i get extra for work i do now, nothing with gender just i work hard for what i do and i pay apprentices and labourers good money if they work hard. On another note someone mentioned pension ages as a whole this should be the same as well as women shouldnt be treated different. on another note look at tennis men and women on equal pay but men are on court for longer hours so if women get the same there matches should be best of 5 sets as why shoild men have to work harder
