WiFi advice

Afternoon all, looking for WiFi advice please.

Bought a booster as sky WiFi connection won’t reach upstairs bedroom to use Netflix etc...

I can get on WiFi for my phone but signal not strong enough for TV !! I’m confused and don’t know what else to do. Please Pm me if you think you can advise anything all advice appreciated

hard wire from router you can get really long cables easily

Your best bet is to use a mesh WiFi, I use the Tenda nova MW6 system in my house which is around £159 I have a big house though and need very fast speeds. There is a slower MW3 that’s £80 ish, but is still very fast.

Get a pair of powerline network adapters on Amazon etc - for about 30 quid.

One goes in a power socket near the TV - network cable into TV.

Other one connects to the Wifi Router. It uses the electrical cabling in your home to distribute the signal.

This is the way, plus you can get a WiFi power line that you can plug the TV or box into and it'll extend the WiFi.

Tplink av600 on Amazon work well

Maybe I can offer a house visit

or drill through the floor up the outside of house is another route also you get wire clips to keep hidden along skirting and door frames

Get a mains adapter the can plug into the router downstairs and another one upstairs and plug it into the tv. Reduces the wiring to the minimum and gets the best results for your tv as they seem to prefer to be plugged into a lan cable than wireless. Take a look at the TP LINK AV1000 power line adapter.

I am just looking at a switched WiFi extender from Screw Fix - basically a double socket to replace your current double sockets around the house which extends the WiFi signal in weak areas - great reviews and currently at £20 each (for two or more) - Check it out, could be what your looking for!

Power line plugs have been working well for me since they first came out. Just make sure you get one with Ethernet (for your tv) and Wi-fi for other devices.

I would def recommend tplink power line adapters which I use for everything.

These will use you power circuit to transmit your network connection to each device which is cabled to them.

No need to depend on wifi

Pity your further away or easy to set up for you. If you want free advice drop me a message

I think it depends on what’s accessing the internet, the TP Link Powerline units are great, but they are fixed in a single room (unless you buy a few). I used them for ages and they did a good job. However, I then needed WiFi access in the back garden, upstairs, the conservatory etc and for me the only way to do that was to use a mesh. If you want any questions answered or advice on what to buy, send me a pm, I’m an IT Architect so have loads of experience with this kind of stuff.

The reason I say hardwired is......you get no issues with a hardwire other than a broken line (which ain't happened to me yet) wifi while good simply ain't as good as wired I have my living room and two bedrooms hard wired cost £20 total get zero packet loss I don't need to be changing bands and frequency to be clear of surrounding "noise" wifi is great for low usage things like browsing the web it begins to struggle under loads gaming wise using wifi here is around 20% worse than hardwire you need to decide what's important if it's no running wires and possible slight problems go wifi if its performance and stability its hardwire

Download something like WiFi analiser onto your phone.

It will show you the frequency and intensity and bands that your - and others - are emmiting from the router.

Find the strongest band and try using that - you may have to play around on the routers/televisions admin side to make them talk to each other.
