Yep I’ve done that but strangely I’d always rather hear the truth even though there’s been occasions I’ll use “tactful diplomacy” too others

If it was me I’d want to know, that’s where it fits. Others may not or may not want to be the bearer of that news. That is a personal choice always

If i were dying a Dr would tell me first. If i were not fit to comprehend then it does not really matter what anyone else says as i would not be well enough to understand anyway.

If you are going to be hurt by the truth, then the question was more important than "does my bum look big in this" and was probably asked of a close friend, not some random. In that situation I would expect the truth.

Everyday small lies are ok though.

I do think it’s harder to be he one telling the truth than it is to be the one receiving it.

A few years back my elderly neighbours mate died in a brothel! Took a heart attack mid fifties & gone.. police told his brother where he was at time of death but told his wife he was in a cafe having a coffee.. serious lie but told with best intentions to spare a women hurt feelings who had been married for 30 years. Right or wrong I personally think the cops left her with a better head for the future.

By default an uncomfortable truth; even though it may make a loss to self. However, majority of the population isn't willing to digest that uncomfortable truth from others. Maybe that the reason have only a number of real friends whom can be counted on fingers and in real life. All others are acquaintances.

And very rare discretionary lie if it ONLY benefits the other person to whom the lie is said to. For example telling a person on advanced stage of cancer for it to get better is to get them strong while they are at it. It's not as if the person isnt aware of their diagnosis or prognosis. It's the support that is required that moment and not rubbing the truth in their face.

having done it I can say hand on heart there is zero point lying and giving false hope. Support and realisation is what I witnessed as best for a person to move forward and get the best result from what's left.

Wasting time chasing rainbows doesn't do the person justice
