OK I'll admit it, I'm very confused. Moved up from South of the wall about 6 months back, knowing that BH dates are different up here. Lo and behold, get to this weekend, the BH that isn't, only to find a bank holiday opening hours sign in the local Tesco. So what on earth is going on?! Is it a BH or not?

It’s an English Bank Holiday that a lot of companies and businesses recognise in Scotland. The Scottish Bank Holiday in August was the 5th. My company recognises the English Bank Holidays but we in Scotland can take the Scottish ones if we like. So yeah it’s confusing to say the least. Most places will be the English Bank Holidays though.

Oh excellent, so it's a bit of a "who knows" situation then?!

I work shifts so I don't have that work guidance side of things, unfortunately I'm not working Monday so won't see if the office bods are about. I guess I'll just judge it on how many "useful" emails I get on Monday compared to usual...

I’d guess your place with have a list of public holidays if you speak to HR, although some companies don’t get them at all I’ve recently found out.

OK best find someone from HR to guide me on this one. Just need to know really if I'm supposed to be BBQ'ing and beach, or moaning that the sun is out but we don't have the holiday! Cheers for the response
