Seen it occasionally on Fab and POF . A women saying she's looking for a 'real ' man. So ladies , do you think there is such a thing ? What qualities should he have. ?Guys , do you think you are a 'real' man in the eyes of women ? If so why, what qualifies you as this unicorn of the male species?.

Thoughts ???

Mmmmm..tough question.....on Fab?

For me, someone who knows his own mind, a quiet confidence and feels no need to compete in the pissing contests that can arise on here.

Very little to do with physical appearance.

Quietly confident but social if that makes sense.

Feels no need to prove himself to others or beg.

Enjoys the Fab ride and looks to give rather than just receive.

I think anyway ha ha

What's wrong with "Man" if the person you're talking about is male

If there is such a thing as a real man, this would be a good definition of him i think.

A man who knows when to take control, one who could look after me but allows the freedom to look after myself, is confident enough they don’t have to as said before join in a pissing contest and respects women, someone who is mature in personality and not acting like a little boy needing looked after or a teenager getting all stroppy and moody. Lots of things make a man just as lots of things make a woman, a good woman and a good man are both pretty equal tbh

nothing whatever imo.

the problem is what "real man" equates too is usually gender devisive.

Depends on context

On fab I would think a lady looking for a real man wants a man that will take charge

In life - someone who can make me laugh through the tears, treat me like a princess or a sex goddess and have the ability to know when each is required, enjoys life with me and enjoys me enjoying life with others too as I would him, knows when to discuss and when to agree, and above all lives in a different house from me (not sure I could share again!)

I’m thinking there may be a reason I’m still single

A real man after doing a #2 will always flush the toilet once and walk away never once looking back to see if it's gone or not, no waiting on the toilet cistern to fill back up before plunging the damn thing away for good lol

Having had the delight of being married to a the complete opposite of a “real man” for too long, then being wonderfully single and now with the divine Mr Switch I would say a real man lets you be you and genuinely fucking adores you for it.

But hey maybe I’m still bitter

Real man or manly?

I like manly men.

Hate guys in skinny jeans and tight t shirts that's just walked out of the tanning salon.

I want a guy that's confident in his own skin can go fix my car or put some Ikea wardrobes up lol.

Over there

I think this is a very cultural thing, and also quite gender stereotypical.

I can when called on build wardrobes, rewire houses, fix cars, cook ok meals, climb mountains, go on expeditions, help oldies cross the road, kiss well, cuddle up as needed, go with red, white or beer, have a good political debate and make folk laugh.

I'm also a grumpy git, far too opinionated, skint permanently through having some kids, carrying a stone too much, like documentaries, own two Coldplay albums and get garlic breath that cold strip wallpaper...

So I'm real.

Hmmmm I seek the same qualities in a man as a woman - intelligent, direct, open minded and a killer sense of humour is essential. In terms of looks I’ve never judged a guy on physical appearence. Tall, short, quirky, hunky, lean, good looking, great physique or dad bod has been secondary to having that X factor. Personal chemistry and being a wee bit different in outlook always appeals.

For me it's a poor turn of phrase. Much like real woman. Both make me roll my eyes .

However I do think that people are likely referring to personality qualities, or at least that is how I define it. Someone with compassion, conviction, courage and who shows respect. Someone who owns who they are and doesn't just want to conform . Someone who isn't afraid of their feelings and is open about their flaws. Humility. It should be standard practice but I think now it's becoming less .

Perhaps that is why it seems an impossible ideal
