So I have woken up this morning and decided to do a local Park Run. Haven’t ran at all in 5 years and know I will be sore afterwards. I will do plenty of stretching but any other advice and does anyone else participate in one ?

Have you signed up and got a code? A lot of park runs are a Saturday

Thought the park runs, the organised events, were on Saturday. You’ll be sore afterwards but on the run just take it easy and stretch afterwards if you haven’t ran for a while

Hope I can still drive to McDonalds for breakfast. If I take my time (after 10:30) I can get a few burgers

. I need to. I am sat in a car most of the week and have gone back to grazing on rubbish so need to keep my non existent harem happy.

I’ll never be ‘gym fit’ again but can get fitter.

I hadn’t run any distance didn’t even run for the bus, but I lost 5 stone decided no pony if I didn’t get fitter went my first run on New Years morning and I’m taking part in half marathon no 3 in a few weeks. I’m not quick but I don’t do it for time do it for enjoyment and like being out in fresh air.

First ones always the hardest.

Never say never. Why would you assume you would never be gym fit again. Are you saying once you turn a certain age we are doomed to be fit (gym fit ) ever again .

Stay away from the mcDonalds. Its processed rubbish and that will mess with your whole body , make you feel crap and you will definitely not be gym fit ever again lol.

Don't actually have to go to the gym to be gym fit. Purchase some weights and do regular core workouts . You'll be looking gym fit in matter of weeks if you skip out the junk food.

If you’re on Fudbook search for running clubs might also be other local ones. Run4it and the Nike shop in Glasgow do midweek ones

The McD’s comment was a joke but I don’t have the time to dedicate to the gym the way I did 20-30 years ago. I am lucky that when working away I tend to use hotels with pools and gyms so I can swim and exert more often.

Lol ok good coz mcDs is not good fyi lol.I don't think most people with families, work, busy lives have time for gym I used to go aswell but don't anymore so have to do workouts at home . Swimming is the best exercise as we age , helps keep our joints flexible and in good working order. I hate the ageing process as being very athletic/sporty when younger right through my life , hit 40 and your mind tends to still want to do same things but the body has other ideas .

I hate running. I get shin splints from old sporting injuries so walking better lol

I did the Kilt Walk about 4 years ago and it took me months for my muscles to recover even though I trained for weeks. That’s why I got a bike but have been saying I am gonna do Park Arun for ages. Ageing is a pain in the arse lol

Don't let the Misconception about loving food make you think you cant be slim, comfortable or fit.

I love my food too , juicy steaks , BBQ's regularly, stews, roast ,you name it , prefer my own home cooked meals from scratch though always with veg butternut and sweet potatos etc , I love food but when I put on weight few months ago and became unfit was when I got a hip injury, causing a nerve block after lifting slabs and digging garden up when hubby was at work and put any sort of fitness to back of mind to rest obviously was in pain ,didn't change my eating habits and always maintained a good 9 stone prior but not doing even a little exercise caused food to attach the those unwanted zones and started drinking coffee and not as much water so energy was totally zapped from my body and pounds appeared . Then it's a war with the body and head to get up and get back on form but anyone can eat what they like without silly fad diets just need to do it in moderation and cut out sweets cakes and junk food especially processed food .

It will be hard studying as the brain needs food to concentrate so easy to reach for nearest thing without thinking and eat. You should honestly try yeast vite. Helps with energy levels as well and definitely get the brain going ,when my two eldest were studying they took Yeats vite and said all information they took in stuck and curved their hunger pangs for junk food . Its vitamins b12 and legal lol. Helps with matabolism aswell.

A wee tip that might help...

When getting up from studying start small , when making food do some squats and press ups against the counter top whilst your waiting for kettle to boil or food to cook then gradually each time you go for a coffee or food add more squats and press ups so increase by number . If you do this everytime you go to get food it will train your brain to relate food to fitness and you'll notice more energy and less craving for food and bum, legs and arms will start tightening up. Its not a fitness regime but it's a starter .

We can all eat the foods we love just in moderation. Popcorn is a good light snack and drink plenty water. Sometimes we store alot of water which adds weight to us woman it's not necessarily fat . Woman to woman

It’s not easy getting the last bit off. I lost 2 stone in 3 months and was only 6lb off target but got bored and Tesco had a deal on Golden Wonder cheese and onion crisps.

Keep at it! First time will be misery. But if you keep going every week it doesn’t hurt!

In the end you can do a 13 miler and not be sore at all !

"

A wee tip that might help..."

Thanks for the advise, I won’t be dieting when I finish studying I will be eating more healthy and exercising more. At present I work full time, study full time and run after my 3 boys (even though 2 are young adults) so I don’t have time to concentrate on my eating habits at the moment and it doesn’t worry me as only about 8 weeks left. My youngest and I are going to start trying out new healthy recipes every week so the food side is covered.

I don’t need to get up from studying to snack as I store my snacks next to my PC so just stretch my arm

Some of my fab friends have assured me they have an exercise plan in mind for me when I finish studying to help with toning my body while I lose weight

My mum, aged 70, used slimming world and lost almost 4 stone and she struggled with the last couple of pounds but got there eventually

Also she had just got a dog when she started SW so think all the long walks helped.

She is now the same weight she was in1970 when she got married
