Sorry, (doesn't) Seem To Be The Hardest Word

Jump to newest

Elton John sang that it seems to be... But is it.. On fab you hear of people saying, "I don't get reply, at least a," sorry, you're not my type " will suffice" or people saying, "I always message back," sorry your but my type".

Really.. Are you sorry, or do you actually think they are sorry.. Is it a platitude thinking sorry makes it all right.. Or I'm sorry I didn't, a b c.. because of xyz... Really are they sorry, if the same or similar situation arose would anything be done differently... Or you see people in the news saying sorry.. Are they.. Or are they just ashamed that what they did is now public knowledge..

Is sorry a meaningless word now?

It's only meaningless when you don't mean it or you are only saying it because you've been caught out being a twat, I like hearing it from people with short memories so I can tell them to shove it

Some people only use it when they mean it so no it’s not meaningless!

I'm sure this isn't the indeded discussion, but given the thread header, I listened to two Elton John albums today and they're as good now as they would have been in the 70s.

But I wouldn't know that at the time, being a young yin, and all.

You're right.. It wasn't.

But, the public thread goes where people take it and that's fine by me.

Its only meaningless when used that way. I dont say sorry, just thanks but not for me. I use my sorries for when I mean them

Tbf, I don't think an apology is necessary if someone isn't quite for you

On here it's part of a polite standard response...."sorry but..." though I tend to say "thanks for your message but this is what we're looking for...."

In real life I think I'm sincere when I say sorry.

You shouldn't have to apologise cause you don't want to fuck someone though.

There are a few words that get banded about a lot in life. They have lost sincerity. Sorry is definitely one of them

I think this is closest... we use the word to placate or soften, as oldy said, to be polite. Meaning it... well, that’s a much deeper and personal circumstance and that’s what Elton was singing - if we wrong someone... we feel shame? Saying sorry then leaves us vulnerable??? In that sense... maybe sorry IS the hardest word (plus admitting you were wrong is never easy)

Interesting post

Depends on the context your using it how sincere it goes. As a knockback its just to soften the blow , give the message a bit of sympathy so no your not REALLY sry but whats the difference.

It can also be a sincere sry when you realy said or done something and you now man up say you were wrong and put your sincerity into it.

It can also be used as shock horror.

Sorry ??? Say that again. !!

Depends on the context its used a bit like " fuck"

My least favourite use of the word Sorry is when it’s followed by BUT

Why bother apologising in the first place if you’re going to cancel it out.

Ohhhh aye ... like the person who shoves by you and says “sorry, excuse me” are they feck sorry they’re just rude or it would be”excuse me” and you’d let them by and no need for the ungenuine and pathetic “sorry” ... I’m sorry there btw... ya hit a nerve
