Ok, I'm getting a tattoo and I'm a bit of a control freak, some of you may have noticed.

For those of us with tattoos what advice do you have for. Tattoo virgin?

For me I would say get somthing that means somthing to you I have a fare few tattoos nd everyone of them mean something to me

Just know what you want, otherwise tattooist can create what they want. Listen to them about placement but know what you want as you’ll look at it forever.

Make sure your 10000% sure that what your getting and where you want it is right for you as once that gun hits the skin there ain't no going back

Got my 1st tattoo last year, took me years to finally decide what I wanted, took 6hrs from start to finish, can't wait for my next one this year, go to a respected tattooist and enjoy

I picked what tattoo I want a cooolenof years ago but haven’t been brave enough to get it done!!

I want the Celtic motherhood symbol on my wrist. I discussed it last month with a tattoo artist so just need to pluck up the courage. Guy said it would take less than an hour so shouldn’t be too bad.

Do you know what you want?

Find A tattooist that you can trust. Will listen to what you want and advise rather than just do it.

Choose carefully where you want it as when your in the chair or lying down your body shape changes . What should be round may be egg shaped when standing straight .

Can't use bepanthem any more - they changed the ingredients of it.

You're old enough to be sensible about it. If you're worried about the pain then ask the tattooist about numbing creams. I had a spray used on my ribs that was magic - skin had to be broken first before it was put on but that was fine. Was just getting really uncomfortable when it was time for the spray

Do your research on artists if you're wanting something big and detailed but always check the place out first regardless.

My advice would be to put some thought in to the design.

Also, have something to eat and drink, preferably a fizzy drink before hand.

Also go to a place that has a good reputation.

Also, make sure that the person who is doing your tattoo is experienced in do that kind of art!

I had recently visited a place and none of their artists could do Script!

Just relax and enjoy it. I find very therapeutic to be honest. It will get itchy as hell when healing but do not scratch it. Just use some palmers coco butter on it and that will sooth it.

Tattoos do not make you cool.

If you have to ask the forum on fab it suggests you may be getting it for the sake of it or for the wrong reasons.

Most people with tatoos I'd assume are clear in their own mind what they want and why they got it done. Unless they were d*unk on holidays!

I'd agree with this. All mine, except one, have meaning to me. The one that hasn't is only small and I plan on getting a sleeve so it will then get covered.

Also once it's been placed where you want it, if you're in the slightest bit of doubt, don't do it. Once it's started there's no going back.

Any tattooist worth their money won't have an issue with you resighting it, either just slightly or completely.

And as someone else said,make sure you take a few painkillers, eat and drink before you go. I also take a wee stash of goodies in with me (juice and lollies or other sweets I can sook on).

all good advice, the most important thing is you don’t rush into it make sure you 100% know what you want I ended up getting a couple of cover ups done and it wasn’t pleasant ! Fizzy juice and something to eat before hand keep the sugar leves up, I take headphones in and listen to my own music can relax better

Yeah moved on from Bepanthen, last one I got done I was advised to use Coconut oil on it and not cover with cling film. Healed in no time with hardly any crusting.

Also depending on what you want done a lot of ink transfers are available online (Big Dabitities!) which you could apply temporarily to see how you like the look of ink on your person?

Use preparation H for tattoos best thing ever on a tattoo is pile cream it softens the skin and it doesn't scan as much

Everyone tattooist will advise you of what they think you should use for aftercare some even give you pots of “stuff”.

My advice Op is too think long and hard about which style and what subject you want inked before discussing it with your chosen tattoo artist. Ask if you can see some of their work as they usually have pictures or check their website. A tattoo is a commitment in my opinion and there is never too much research.

Research, any good artists will have their work on Instagram so find an artist you like and go with a rough idea in mind and a few pics for reference, don't be too specific with what you want as giving your artist a little freedom will make for a better design.

Make sure you see some of the artists work, just because they have a shop doesn't make them good
