I don't think there is a great deal we can do to be honest. Try and be vigilant, keep a wee eye out for anything dodgy....other than that, not a lot.

I'm of the same opinion as doggy, there really isn't much you can do apart from being vigilant and report anything suspicious.

I was at the university on Sunday and it does make you stop and think for a minute what could happen but you can't let it stop you living life or they have won.

I don’t think anyone will live in fear it’s not in our nature for that . In work on our commute even shopping are we more likely to question odd things we see and report them ?

It’s not something I wish to see in the news as a regular occurence in Scotland .

My first thought was animal protestors because of the R&D that goes on at the universities but I tend not to take much heed of anything that goes on nowadays tbh there’s always another agenda, Ireland still manages to thrive and folk go about their business and they’ve seen far more than any of the rest of us could imagine

Never live in fear of these arseholes as soon as you do part of their goal has succeeded.

What do I do for my safety and that of other simple whenever I go somewhere new (shop, pub/restaurant, hotel) look to see where the nearest exit/safe spot could be so that if shit happens then I know where to go. Stay alert unfortunately we live in an age where we spend 99% of our time looking at tech and we zone out, look around people watch take a break from looking at phones and computers especially in new surroundings get a feel for the place even in a place you know keep an eye out for the unusual. I’m not saying hype yourself up that you should be jumping around like a kid that’s had to much sugar but no harm in readjusting to your environment every so often and never doubt your gut instinct.

It’s nothing new. In the 80’s and 90’s we had anthrax scares and warnings to be on the lookout for suspicious packages at work. We had bomb scares due to having Iraqi and Iranian employees in the same department. I’ve been evacuated from work due to an asbestos incident and a fume hood that exploded in a lab. In a different job the London office was close to the Westminster Bridge attack. We still went as planned the following day.

We just have to be diligent and get on with our lives. We can’t live being scared of everything.

Read my post again before you jump to conclusions.

I said "you lot" as in the whole nation of Scotland, if you had the daily threat of terrorism then there would be " A lot less sectarianism over football in this country".

That implies that of the sectarian cohort (it doesn't matter what percentage of the whole population it is) would be reduced significantly due to the direct impact of seeing how primitive and mindless it all is.

Nowhere did I say everyone in Scotland who follows football was sectarian???

It's ok, I don't expect you to acknowledge you were wrong.

You do realise that a large proportion of Scots have Irish ancestors and that many Irish and fans from NI travel to watch their football teams on a regular basis. The sectarianism was in football long before the troubles in Northern Ireland.

You should both read up on your history.

If they have a similar thread on their forum do you want me to go and post there? Because I don't think I could be arsed.

What would you rather I have said?

I just find it bemusing that your labelling everyone who follows football in Scotland as sectarian.

No one else grew up in NI apart from you ?

Read my post again before you jump to conclusions.

I said "you lot" as in the whole nation of Scotland, if you had the daily threat of terrorism then there would be " A lot less sectarianism over football in this country".

That implies that of the sectarian cohort (it doesn't matter what percentage of the whole population it is) would be reduced significantly due to the direct impact of seeing how primitive and mindless it all is.

Nowhere did I say everyone in Scotland who follows football was sectarian???

It's ok, I don't expect you to acknowledge you were wrong.

Your xenophobic end of and very much part of the problem.

I'm not going to even acknowledge that daft statement by trying to counteract it.

I know it's the weekend but you've clearly started early!

I just called you out on talking shite.

Hows the bump doing ?

You do realise that a large proportion of Scots have Irish ancestors and that many Irish and fans from NI travel to watch their football teams on a regular basis. The sectarianism was in football long before the troubles in Northern Ireland.

You should both read up on your history. "

I know my history. Why don't you actually read my initial post?

"I just hope that no idiots decide to make a joke and leave something suspiciously looking in for example hospital. It my cost someone's life.

Why would a prank suspicious looking "something" at a hospital cost someone their life? "

If there was a terrorist threat in a hospital , i know for fact ambulances divert to other hospitals. Are you saying that delay or detour couldnt cause loss of life.

If they have to evacuate and don’t have staff or resources lots of patients could be put in a life threatening position ie elderly and frail folk ending up out in the elements etc very hard to evacuate a hospital most aren’t adequately equipped to cope with a fire tbh

I think you're completely unqualified to even comment on ambulance and hospital protocols especially in a hypothetical situation. But as usual that won't stop you weighing in.

And are the protocols different from real world threats to hypothetical threats. ?

Terrorism is not a thing in scotland and never will be....

Who in their right mind would take on the party loonies of the world!!!

And quite frankly the last time somd idiot tried anything. They were pulled from a burning car and beaten up!!!

Suspicious package. Just let a ned in and use it as a fitball!! Nay fear!!!

Its a ball ache, inconvenience and a daft prank that will get taken seriously by the establishment so as to create fear in the public.

That way they may better manage the public! And keep them in check.

Oh nanny state!!!!

Erm, bad things already happened in Scotland... Lockerbie, Dunblane... things that all the planning and vigilance in the world wouldn't prevent.

It's all a heap of shite

Keep the public afraid and uninformed and they are easier to controll and take away their personal liberties

Look at all our personal liberties that have been taken away and/or eroded since 11.09.2001

Much as this was a terrible incident that happened on scottish soil. This was a terrorism act directed at America. Not Scotland...

The flight path took aircraft over Scotland before heading actoss the Atlantic. The investigators believe the device triggered prematurely.

The majority of terrorism held on scottish soil was when the English came over the border to pillage our ancestors.

Scotland is not a threat to the world. Unlike our empire neighbours, unfortunately.

If you knew how many nukes were currently in Scotland, you may change your opinion. lol as for the original post, civilians are not trained for terror attacks, even with training, depending on the type of attack or severity of it, there's a good chance if you don't get injured or killed, you will go into a state of shock. The Immediate Action would be to get into cover, get your wits about you, try locate where the attack has happened from your location, type of attack, ie- a shooter, bomb, etc, then plan an escape route, don't head to somewhere obvious, as that would be a likely location for a secondary attack or device. Once out the danger area, back home, at a friends or relative, etc, write everything down that happened, while still fresh in your head, you may hold a clue depending on how much you saw, to help police and other agencies piece together what has occurred. You can't prevent an attack from happening, but what you do immediately after an attack, could save your life or prevent further injury. thats about the best advice i can give.
