Mini Socials

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

We know there are big socials with 40-50 people organised with a charge to cover costs. We know there are small house parties but generally people know each other and there’s perhaps some perceived pressure to play.

Are there any mini socials? By this we means say 4 couples who don’t know each other go to a bar for some drinks just to see who clicks. A bit less pressure than a 1 to 1 social with more options to talk and much easier to organise than the big 4 time a year event. With no cost other than drinks.

Probably a daft idea but just wondering if it ever happens.

Yeah we've put up for causal drinks plenty of times and had couples message to come along

You'll normally find people put up for pre drinks etc before going to CJs

"I agree with Fem, pick a few people and invite them along, what’s the worst that can happen ? "

Or should we just ask who’s like to come to a very small social . Incognito in a bar (no gimp masks) and since it’s small the attendees would have to have to be similar. For us we’d probably be looking for another 3 couples.

We’ve been to a large social but felt out of it because everyone knew each other and been to a party but felt, in our own heads, some pressure to play.

With a mini social there is no pressure to play but with 4 couples (say) you wouldn’t be left out either.

Only an idea

We don’t go to CJs (too scared as it’s too close to home) so a mini social would just be a social with no expectation of any play. Just a get to know you.

Not many local to it go, fact only a few but the ones that do have been on the scene for years so no issues there, but yes can be scary and every now n then we run into someone we know off the scene

I would probably put a status up and see if you get any interest first, you'll want to chat to the couples I'm sure to see if you click. It you don't get enough interest from that you could put a meet request up and see what comes from that. I'm sure you won't have any problems getting a few couples to meet up.

It's a great idea and something I know myself and my husband would prefer to a larger party night or club if we were looking to meet

A lot of people won't be visible. You can change your settings so you don't show up on who's looked at me. There will be more than just 4. Also message couples you're interested in and ask if they would like to meet up

Try asking those you want to go for a drink/meal dont get tied up in the name.

As an aside what folk are deeming big socials most of the time its not its just a crowd hooking up in a bar so go and if it dosnt suit leave

We’ve been to a big social in a dedicated venue. Pinupgirl who organised it was lovely to us. However we felt lots of people knew each other and we were on the periphery. We know you should mingle but felt awkward just walking up to a table of 10 people who all knew each other.

Our problem but we’d probably feel more comfortable in a smaller meet.

I know what you mean nut those table of 10 were all Just like you guys 1 time too..nobody at socials would ignore you if you spoke to them..this 10 folk are prob just all catching up with folk they havnt saw in a while.

I know when I go to socials I usually sit with 2 cpls we have known for yrs ...nothing to do with cliques just catching up with friends.

But the smaller social is a great idea! Put a meet today up with a date and see if anyone fancies it?

Good luck

It used to be a regular thing a few years back. You'd be in the chatroom, and end up organising a spur of the moment social with a few others that day, or the next. However, I've noticed that most of the people who used to attend mini socials have moved on from here, or have given up on the Scottish area of the site, and do their socialising over the border...pity, because the mini socials were a good laugh.

id agree with this hell of a lot more social down south or it could be because you really are meeting new folk in other places.

We have the mini socials down where I live in west yorkshire.

On visiting the aberdeen area for so long I was looking for a social in the area.

At least 1 in every 2 month at least everyone can plan for it.

But many want the large socials with an event planed.

Sorry but we’re just going for couples on the night as we’re looking for couples only. It’s only a small get together. Sorry if that’s selfish but it’s for couples to find other couples.

Who know in the future but nothing to stop somebody arranging their own similar get together.

Our 2 last Christmas nights have been 13 guests and 14 guests. Been assured they were great nights but the disadvantages of smaller socials are that lesser pottential play mates . Lots to be said in favour of big socials and also small numbered intimate group sizes. Good luck with your arranged night OP

We’ve only been to one big social but there were lots of people who seemed to spend most of the night in small groups of 8-10 people. Bigger socials might give more options but only if there is a lot of mingling going on. We only got to speak to a handful of people at the big social as most groups seemed impenetrable.

With our smaller group everyone will hopefully get to chat to each other as no one really knows each other.

Smaller socials are easier to organise and you don’t need to hire a venue or take any payment. Horses for courses though
