Hi all.

I’m just wondering what’s everyone’s thoughts about this.

Was speaking to a bi sexual friend of mine the other day.

He was telling me he was on something called Prep. This is something I’ve never heard of before.

So, being on prep means you take a couple of tablets in the morning and then again at night and this stops you from catching HIV / AIDS.

At first I thought he was kidding but it Real.

So my questions are, has anyone else heard of this and if so, what’s your thoughts?

It stands for pre exposure prophylaxis. Have a look at the Terence Higgins Trust for info.

I wouldn't automatically trust someone who said they were on it, it's not fully effective if taken incorrectly and doesn't protect against other STIs. Majority of studies have also been carried out on men only as far as I am aware (straight, bi and gay).

I think it's quite expensive. There was a gay man on Radio Scotland a couple of weeks ago who was interviewed about it.

My friend was saying he gets it on the NHS but if buying outside the U.K. it’s very expensive.

I just hadn’t heard of it and wasn’t sure if he was just winding me up as he’s a bit of a prqcyocal joker

Thanks but no thanks, condoms will do for mow until some amazing free time machine comes to everyone's aid

PrEP can be used by those who are HIV negative to reduce the chances of them getting the infection, especially if they're at higher risk (maybe they have a partner with the infection).

As others have said though, it doesn't stop you contracting other STI's.

There is loads of info online about it, we've been looking into it at college, just use reputable sources.

The guy who was interviewed on the radio the other week was obviously happy with it but he did admit he'd had 3 sexual partners that week alone. Personal responsibility has to come into things imo.

It’s a bit of a hazard I’d have thought, as someone said you have to be good at remembering to take them, also again it only reduces your risk of getting HIV. Not a massive amount of reasearch either I’d be sceptical personally

If someone was to say I’m

On prep, don’t wear a condom I would leave!
