Professional Couple/man/woman

So what makes a professional person? Seen it plenty of times on profiles but what makes them professional? I have a degree in counselling, fully qualified aeronautical engineer and drive for a living but would not put myself up as a professional.

So what makes someone a professional and the rest of us mere mortals???

technically you are a professional but in terms of your lifestyle do you hit 5pm and the tie and shoes come off for more comfortable attire ? woud you rather go to the pub than a wine bar ? does your life revolve around your career and pushing yourself into an early grave ? no ? same here id rather not class myself as professional but i can legally sign passports

The phrase "professional" makes us laugh.

Everyone who has a job, has a profession,wether it be a bus driver or street sweeper.

A boxer,darts player or indeed golfer are sometimes professional boxers etc.

People that say they are a professional male or female make us howel.

Being male or female is not a profession,you don't make a living from it.

They are genders not professions.

Aye well... I used to be a professional but now I'm an unemployed jakeball by society's standards. By choice. Definitely don't feel unemployed. 3 tiny dictators make sure of that and paying someone else to look after them means I'm left with pennies. No benefits. Do I still qualify as an unemployed jakeball? Can I put that on my profile? 'V is an unemployed jakeball but still never available for meets and doesn't meet without W anyway'

As has been stated, people are not in employment for many reasons and you can be a "fanny" in or out of employment. Instead of focusing on a social status that is changeable, why not focus on qualities that don't change, courteous, considerate, and the like.

Fundamentally down to whether we like it or not , we live in a class system that in the foreseeable future will still be with us , Thankfully my kids are more open to life’s intricacies than I was ever taught to , but it’s a sad indictment of human nature in all walks of life, there are still those who put them themselves on a pedestal , even just to bed someone.

Why don’t they read the testimonials of the majority of the nicer people on Fab , the person you are will get you friends before the person you think you are

Wikipedia suggests one definition of professional is

“In some cultures, the term is used as shorthand to describe a particular social stratum of well-educated workers who enjoy considerable work autonomy and who are commonly engaged in creative and intellectually challenging work.”

It is always a decisive term on the forums and really gets some people’s backs up. If you don’t like the term then the block button works so you don’t have to get worked up about them.

The term is misused a lot, and some of the people claiming to be professionals, possibly aren’t.

A profession is an occupation that requires a formal qualification, a prolonged period of training and has a regulatory body, thus a profession is different from a trade or a job.

I’m not quite sure why people put this on profiles either, it certainly comes across as being a little arrogant.
