SCOTTISH “DAD BODS”

Jump to newest

By *andom2chat OP   Man

A Galaxy Far, Far Away & Spain

I’ve been fortunate enough to meet up with many fit bods from Fab. However, I’m also realistic & realise that most of us don’t spend the majority of our time down the gym.

So this thread is to show the Scottish Forum’s appreciation of The Dad Bod - folk who are not necessarily fit or overweight but somewhere nice in the middle. Perhaps a few curves that aren’t as toned because life demands they don’t spend every spare minute doing weights; still attractive that they catch your eye because they have “that certain something”; & folk you would be proud to be seen with.

So ladies (& gents) let’s hear your appreciation of the Scottish Dad Bod either from your posts or by displaying your Dad Bod pics/avatar.

‘Mon the Dad Bods.

YAAAAY! “Mon the dad” bod indeed!

I get the feeling fab males love and embrace female curves which makes curvaceous woman more confident. Wouldn’t it be great if we could do the same for us middle aged guys who are too busy with life responsibilities to spend 2 hours at the gym every day.

Great post OP!

Thanks buddy. I thought it was appropriate particularly after New Years (broken Resolutions & all), but moreover because I do think that modern media does put unfair pressure on guys as well as gals. We should celebrate the Dad Bod as much if not more so than the Gym Bunny.

How about aspiring for a healthy body? I'm not sure what a dad body is even but no one needs a 6 pack to be healthy.

Lifting weights and body fat percentage in single figures does not mean someone is fit or even that they are healthy. Doesn't mean they could run the length of themselves or last 15 mins in a game of 5 or 7 aside. The use of supplements including those that are notoriously dangerous for health such as steroids is wrecklesslessy common place in the persuit of vanity. Even creatine and whey protein used inappropriately can knacker your kidney function for life.

We're all programmed genetically differently regardling body composition but I don't buy into this having life responsibilities and no time to spend 2 hours a day in the gym. That to me tells me that you aspire to change your body and that's an excuse. No one needs 2 hours a day to get functionally fit and through time everyones body will change.

20 - 30 minutes proper exercise every day/every other day anywhere (own home/garage/outside don't need gym memwbership) if you're properly motived and over time, will change your body, make you functionally fitter and stronger, less likely to be reliant on medication to control blood pressure and blood sugar and likely to live longer. If some of the responsibilities referred to are kids then that's a good thing, you can be around to see them when they're older and less likely to be dependent on them.

This in addition to having a sensible diet and moderating booze. Lots of people would like to change their body shape but won't budge on their booze intake. Well they're deluding themselves.

So rather than anyone celebrating something they'd like to change I suggest make the time, invest in yourself, because if you don't respect yourself enough to invest the time and energy in your own health and fitness why should anyone else be interested?

Are you sure?

I think some people seem to be trying to justify it?

There should be no need to have to justify any body type, it just seems to stem from insecurity to begin with.

For those ranting off topic to be self righteous or just questioning what a dad bod is...

It's a bit like a woman saying she's curvy. Dad bod would be a formerly muscular, low body fat kind of guy who's given up some of the obsession in favour of family life so has lost a some of the muscle tone and put on a few lbs but still healthy. Still able to throw you down on the bed and toss you about a bit but better to cuddle after then that ranges to those who are most likely moribly obese and 5 years from a major heart attack also proclaiming 'dad bod'.

Apologies if I offend, I'm too tired and fed up to sugar coat.

I'm all for 'embracing' a dad bod

Personally I just see Dad/Mum bods as accepting a stage in life when personal vanity isn't the most important thing anymore. Health is always still a priority of course, but enjoying your body as it is, and life's pleasures in general, takes precedence over chasing abs. That's certainly attractive to me, and to most other women on the thread it seems.

I asked what a dad bod is because I genuinely do not know....i dont define people by their body shape just like i dont hide behind my own... self acceptance is the powerful insight and what we should have and if we do not, we are our own agents of change. Seeking that appreciation from others is false and is short lived.

Now if the post was a general man appreciation, i would have said i love the presence of a MAN....broad shoulders, strong arms, confidence and that cheeky glint in his eye, whether he is a dad or not or what age he is...

"...Dad/Mum bods as accepting a stage in life when personal vanity isn't the most important thing anymore..."

Fab really need an applause icon for this comment. I also agree on the health bit.

However I was more struck by the “vanity” bit. Whilst we can all have a little bit of vanity about ourselves I would never want vanity to consume what actually is truly beautiful on the inside, or make me ugly.

Thanks for that post.

Used to live in the gym 6 days a week sometimes doing double sessions pre fights

Then at 35 I retired took up coaching

Then at 40 packed it in altogether

Now 57 with a Granda bod.

Waist size is still hovering between 32-34 when it used to be 28

Got moobs now instead of pecs

I know 30 mins a day for 3 days a week will tone it all for the summer but sounds too much like hard work now

I know, I need to set the alarm clock and get up in the morning, done first thing it sets you up for the day. And for me it's less to do with how it makes me look and more about how it makes me feel.

Mr's heavier now than he used to be but still has the "phwoar" factor.

Thanks for your offering. With all due respect, if I need inspiration I'll look elsewhere!

I'm sure the fact that she knows she's got a real little trooper fighting her corner on here will make her feel less fed up and hopefully a little less tired too.

When you read the thread and each post on the thread including mine and what it actually says maybe you will appreciate that I haven't been self righteous nor taken the thread off track at all. I have made reference to the OP and previous posters and I clearly stated no one should feel like they have to justify any body type. I also stated that we are all individually genetically programmed so that our natural body composition is different.

Now if you have something insightful to say on the matter I'm all ears.

Or perhaps you think that 30 minutes exercise every other day in order to stay healthy is unrealistic and unachievable? I'm not really sure what your point is at all??

"Today's inspirational quote, 'I've met some pricks in my time, but you, sir, are a cactus'.

How sweet of you to assume this was aimed at you..."

Think the definition is not thin \ muscely or fat (like beer belly) and chunky it’s kind of somewhere in between them two.

"I’ve been fortunate enough to meet up with many fit bods from Fab.

I like dad bods.I like skinny men. I don’t discriminate.

A fwb of mine has the most ridiculously beautiful body. And that’s nice. However if he had a dad bod, and a wee tum, he’d still be a fwb cos he’s a genuinely brilliant guy. That’s what counts for me.

It is a hard one for sure as people’s perceptions differ hugely.

For me a dad bod is someone who was your 2 hour a day gym goer, who had the chiselled look... rips, definition etc... but for whatever reason doesn’t do the gym and therefore as lost the sculptured look, but they are still healthy, still active. They just have a tiny bit more insulation. Their bmi is still in healthy range thou.

Agree with another poster, a dad bod isn’t someone with a beer belly, double chins etc.

I guess dad bod and average would be similar.. thou maybe average is more doesn’t really worry about what they eat as much? And not been to a gym or ever had a ripped body?

No idea to be fair, everyone has different views. xx

I took Botox???

What are you talking about man? I have never had Botox? Seriously? that statement just means I will skip past every post you ever make again without reading if that's the tripe you claim.

And for your information you don't "take" Botox, it's not a tablet that's ingested orally.

I was merely pointing out that you contradicted yourself as Marylin clearly wasn't happy with her appearance and she went to extremes to try to change that. So it's you that is missing your very own point!

Think point I'm trying to make is for every ripped big gun guy folks think is no attractive someone will find the rotund small gun guy attractive also ,dont let anyone judge you for having a 6 pack but dont let anyone judge you for having a podge ,if you let them judge you and take it on board then you can't love yourself and be happy and confident in you

Is this the same Marylin Monroe who had frequent colonic irrigation to make her tummy flatter rather than do some exercise? . Nice role model you picked.

Probably and same as yourself who took botox to look younger ,your still missing my point ,only judge someone else when your judgment doesnt involve imperfections we all have in life

Skipping your posts is always a good idea.

More people should try it.

Daft enough to quote me proving you've read my wisdom and then make a claim like that!

"I guess dad bod and average would be similar.. thou maybe average is more doesn’t really worry about what they eat as much? And not been to a gym or ever had a ripped body? "

Although I used to go to the gym, swim, cycle and other do several other sports I wouldn't say I was ever 'ripped'. These days I don't have time or opportunity for much exercise so definitely into the dad bod category as I'd define it these days rather than yours although I think both of our definitions share common ground...

"How about aspiring for a healthy body?

Agreed but we're celebrating the dad bod here mate.

Are you sure?

I think some people seem to be trying to justify it?

There should be no need to have to justify any body type, it just seems to stem from insecurity to begin with. "

It's all good just accept what you have. I make time to train and hopefully always will. Beauty is in the eye and all that jazz. Its personal choice to stay fit or not xx

Training is all good and well, but when you struggle with physio, you DO have to make do with what you have.

Speaking as someone who's been both(currently sliding towards dad bod) i honestly prefer the bod, training 3 hours a day 4 days a week is too exhausting sometimes, especially when you aint got time, you get all moany, sloppy, argumentative, least with the dad bod you dont need too worry about constant upkeep )
