Koh Lanta

Having been brought up and lived much of my life in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, (Last of the Summer Wine Land), I’m a country, (old), boy at heart, and having lived in Edinburgh for the past 7 years, Kirkcaldy the past 2, now my daughter is finally, (fingers crossed), leaving home so I don’t need to be close to a good public transport network, it’s my intention to take the plunge and move to a more rural location and I’d really appreciate it if any fellow FABers could let me know below of any nice rural property’s for rent they may spot or know of in the Central Scotland/Scottish Borders, with me being comfortable paying up to £1,200 a month, although less would be better of course.

What I’m seeking would ideally have at least 3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, office space, garaging, (or a small barn that will take 2 cars), the more rural the better, although a close by town with decent shops would be useful. Also, as I’m a website developer that works from home, I’d need a fast internet connection.

If it’s a great spot for holding parties, even better ?

If anybody knows of, or spots a property that may be suitable, I’d love to hear from you thanks.

I'd love to see that on kirsty and phil - ideal Swingers pad in rural location

Perthshire has some lovely rural spots near enough to villages. Might be worth just going for a long drive one day, picking an area and going from there.

Actually for Internet speeds in rural areas Stirling might be a good bet depending on how far out the gigabit fibre is going. Plenty of pretty rural-ish spots too

The national park have a say in any new builds within its boundaries…which is fun if you fancy living anywhere in the trossachs….

Thanks for the replies so far, with me checking the estate agents/property sites on a regular basis and so far finding nothing suitable.

A small "smallholding" in The Borders/Fife/Lanark/Forth Valley/Perth area would be ideal, but seems that there are not many around to rent

If you're really desperate look at the new builds at Winston Barracks…

Na, I'm wanting a more rustic property, preferably one with a large garage/barn that I can park and work on my Disco in.

Try looking at Galbraith. It's an agency that deals with rural properties only, there are some crackers on it usually!

Ive worked for a few of the land agencies ckd have the market cornered mostly. Rural Internet is shite in Scotland, our old dial up years ago was quicker to load pages. Satellite broadband is the way forward, a few of my mates have it. Also be mindful rural living means filthy cars and roads, farm smells shite etc, livestock out in your garden, huge machinery round blind corners, incredibly noisey wildlife! Lol.

There was a nice longhouse for 80,000 grand in the borders for sale. Looked like a lot of work to be done to being it up todate

As I've said, I'm used to living in the country, plus have an old Land Rover Discovery as well as my car, so not really bothered about the roads or getting stuck.

Off to look at large 5 bed farmhouse with a double garage and outbuildings in the middle of nowhere in the borders tomorrow, with one of the outbuildings being quite a big barn - I can feel a rave and massive party or 2 coming along in the summer if I get it

I can't believe the rent too, less than I was paying for a shitty 2 bed flat in Edinburgh 3 years ago

The farmhouse I went to look at today was amazing, 3 reception rooms with open grate coal/log fires, a large 3 aspect sun room, brilliant fitted dining kitchen, utility room, double garage, 2 house bathrooms & 4 bedrooms, (the master bedroom en suite with a foot bath too ).

Outside there's a couple of acres of garden with a stream running through it, a barbecue patio & small orchard, and the nearest neighbour 3/4 of a mile away.

I've made an offer to the agent, can't wait to hear back

Rent wise, I can't believe it, I wouldn't get a decent 2 bed flat in Edinburgh for what the rent is on this place...

FAB Housewarming party anyone?
