So scotland might join the euro, and breaking away from britian whats the views of people here, I think you's would be better sticking to be a part of britian the way the euro is going at the min its a bad bad idea

if they have their heads screwed on then they will vote against devolution. I think it would be the end of Scotland tbh. Very bad idea indeed. I haven't spoken to anyone who would vote for it personally.

Wee Eck will be ready to get his bus pass in a couple of years and he can say he tried...and failed. He is the only competent person in the SNP when he goes it will not matter anymore. It is not about independence for Scotland it is about ego trips for the punters.

Scots will see there tax bills double to pay for his folly if it goes ahead!

Kinda on the fence here as the condems seem to be only worried about looking after their own (the rich),as for the snp I think they have done not to bad and independence does not meen we need to join euro,another thing that gets to me is why westminster want so much to hold on to scotland when most of their mps think they subsidise us.

If Scotland does get its independence, then whether or not it joins the Euro should be down to the people. Considering not many people in the UK have faith in the Euro, I doubt that Scots will vote to join it even if they spite the GBP... Think they may rather opt for a Scottish Pound or stick with what is working (just).

And a new nation that many are debating whether it'll be able to support itself financially joining the Euro may make the Euro worse. I heard somewhere that Scotland spends more than it raises in tax... Statistics are somewhere. I'm no economist though.

All I'm worried about is whether or not Scottish Independence will lead to stronger anti-english attitudes: Will I, for instance, start getting abused in the street by folk demanding i go back to my own country? What would the criteria be for dual-nationality?

Highly unlikely a vote for independence for Scotland would get a thumbs up from the people of Scotland (just now), but what I would say is that the Scottish Parliament should be the ones to timetable a referendum. Its only a year or two ago that Labour, Conservatives and Lib Dems were dead set against the SNP's plans for the referendum on it, and said they would vote anything down that the SNP's proposed and now all of a sudden Cameron and his cronies are trying to force it on the Scottish Government and people as they know dam well fine its highly probably that it would not be voted for, but give it a few years with the current Westminster Government in power and the state of the economy and who knows.

I think it more likely there would be an uptake of the vote for more devolved powers to the Scottish Parliament, clearly something Westminster don't want cause they like to be holding all the purse strings and giving Scotland what they clearly see as a hand out.

You have to be realistic and even the vote could turn out to be a real can of worms. For example do you have "only" people of Scottish Nationality voting, or the full electoral role with all nationalities living in Scotland, then do you allow ex pats to vote etc, goes on and on. I really don't think that an independent Scotland would have much of an impact on other Nationalities living in Scotland, the whole Scots hatred of English people is mostly the tabloid hacks and media bawbags ramping up the media machine. Even the way the press and television are skewing the story of the fight between Cameron and Salmond, its just pathetic.

On getting into power Cameron said he would work with the Scottish Government, well now is the time for him to allow the people of Scotland to have their say and make our decision - the longer this goes on the more it will look like he is trying to rule over Scotland and piss people off that they may bloody vote for independence. He has to realise his is a Conservative Government and well they are not exactly popular in Scotland !

Oh and as for the whole Euro thing, errrrr its fooked, people better wake up and smell the roses, right now its something thats dying and no amount of meetings in Brussels is going to solve the inherent problem, sort out the banks, more regulations, cut all the hefty bonuses that the majority shareholders vote for (like you would vote against a bonus)

Its whole Eurozone thing is not what countries signed up for in the late 70's the world has changed, so the whole Eurozone needs rethought from the base up, sort out the banks as a matter of urgency, its only then that the Euro may become a viable option again.

Banks exist because of customers, they seem to forget that. If everybody went into their bank tomorrow and closed their account they couldn't get their money and its not sitting in a safe in the back of the bank its invested somewhere and you money is being loaned to somebody else who in turn loans it to someone else. Money to banks is not a paper note its a figure on a computer screen somewhere.

So it's just Scottish people with this type of attitude? Already we hear English people telling us 'jocks' to piss off and leave as we are an inferior country, and more personally I have already been told countless times to go back to my own country by people of varied ages when I am down newcastle working, but it's just the Scpttish with the poor attitude..

Scotland's budgets decrease every year whilst the English one raises, crime levels in Scotland have been falling whilst they have been on the rise in england, even alcohol levels have been on the drop in Scotland BUT again on the rise in England. Either David Cameron is against Scotland leaving the UK as England will suffer more financially or they won't have a joint country to constantly look down on and point the finger at... Also i wonder which nation would fare better in Europe on their own...my guess is it would not be England.....

I don't think we should leave the uk, we are a stronger voice in global relations when we stand together, our forces are amazing (ex forces) and we do have a fantastic team spirit for the olympics and such like. The Pound is something to be prpud of too in these current financial states, why even consider changing it?

What I think is actually happening is that the SNP want more powers, the Scottish government still report to Westminster like dogs, the threat is equality with those at Downing street or Independace....but insaying that I am not a politician, just someone who reads the paper

Well maybe during football games on telly but again presenters being so up themselves and biased does not help. Does not matter who England is playing the better side or not the presenters never fail to amuse me by bumming them up lol, (been to see Scotland v England in the Six Nations many times and can't say there has been much hatred in amongst the crowd). Also sporting events do not reflect everyday aspects, obviously your going to support your own team on the day. I mean look at Rangers and Celtic fans, according to the media they all hate each other, so why is it then on a Monday morning they walk into my work and work together !!! It's sports, passions run high

As for people being told to go back to their own countries, not exactly going to happen is it, every country is so interwoven with a variety of nationalities in society and work that it could not happen.

In this day in age there is enough to worry about, just got to accept not everyone is going to get on that's a fact of life, but folks should just get the fook on with it

with the state of all the euro zone they would be mental to join it so i would prefer to stick to being part of the uk and keep the pound.

lets face it the euro is primarily a german french machine for financial control... scottish independance sounds great but a snation we cannot afford it, think of it as a business start up and who is going to lend us the money lol, as for comments about english attitude to scots then out side of football, rugby etc who cares..... lets face it who lives in the most scenic and friendly of countries????? salmond!!!! dangerous politician with some good ideas but also realises it wont happen but the soap box he is on will be a great platform for the american dinner speech circuit when he retires,,, aka blair....

Johann Lamont must be cringing with embarrassment at Millband and Cameron in cahoots in London.

I don't know what I am being asked to vote. The Euro is only one of those questions. People need factual info to make an informed choice, not a rigged or rushed vote manipulated by London.

their researchers published a report on this question a month or so ago

what would happen to the UK's membership of the EU in the event the UK splits in two

there is no legal consensus

no-one can agree if both new states would inherit the membership, one would, or none would

they conclude it will be a political decision by the 27 other member states

it's a can of worms

and it opens up the argument in England about a referendum on membership by the new state in the rest of the uk

i will definately be voting for independance. Scotland can survive on its own and that has been proven in dozens of studies. Every coountry has the right to join the euro or not (thats why the uk isnt in).

I am the daughter of a soldier so yes our armed forces do a great job but westminster have decimated the scottish regiments and it aint reason enough to remain part of a "kingdom" where we are the guinee pigs for things like the poll tax and we have a prime minister who treats our elected first minister the way he does.

i am a nurse and just about to lose £100 a month from my salary because of the mess our economy is in (a westminster government bailing out the bankers). There is nothing "great" in great britain.

I would rather have a scottish govenment making decisions about scotland than one who doesnt give 2 hoots. As for the increase in taxes, we pay huge fuel tax, increased vat and more to our pensions for less so we are doing that now (westminster just disguise it)

i think the snp have done well until now so am willing to trust them more than a government that the people of scotland never voted for

Scotland may aswell just join the euro, I'd have a better chance of using a euro note to buy myself lunch in England than I do when I attempt to use our Scottish notes grrr

Ill admit to not knowing much about it…. but do really think that Scotland has enough of an economy/industry to bring in enough revenue in taxes to sustain the population without the help of 'great britain'

Maybe it has now with the oil/gas…. but when that goes, which it will….

There has been an awful lot of much raking and just down right lies from the media on this debate and it is sad how much of it is then taken as facts. Salmond has said that if and when we get independance Scotland WILL stick with sterling until such time as there is a referendum on the Euro and the scottish people vote to join it. That is unequivical, that is what he said on National television, but it doesn't suit the panic mongers so they just keep peddeling their LIES that the SNP want to join the euro. Also the vote for independance is open to everyone who is on the Scottish electoral role, again this has been well documented but once more the medi a LIE by inferring that no non-Scottish nationals will be allowed to vote on it. This is our opportunity to show the world that we are a proud nation and able to stand on our own two feet, and the world is watching us. One last point, if Scotland is such a drain on the British economy and we are subsidised by the English why are they so petrified to see us go it along????? Perhaps the thought of losing the oil revenues, which by the way is taxed from London and therefor counted as part of the English GDP and not Scottish. THis debate is not about being anti-English it is about being Pro-Scottish. I love the English but I am Scottish and wish for political independance with every fibre of my being.
