themed partied

Ok, I'm sure this thread has been done before, but for my next party I'm considering making it a theme night. One of my good friends detests the idea, so is it an ice breaker or an pain in the proverbial?? What theme's should we go for??? Can you be arsed or is it best just going for the fun??

Glenrothes

Not been to a themed party before so not able to comment. But depending on the theme and venue, costume hire might be an added expense on top of hotel and travel etc for some. Also depending on numbers, your changing room might be very busy. I mean would peeps be happy travelling in their _oman togas or serving wench outfits etc.

Last one were at was a Halloween one, great fun, but you could do a "monster" one, just to be different.

Older generations. Everyone dressed like someone of an older generation. I'm only saying this cos I bought clothes to look like a grandpa. A cool one mind...

OOOps caught I like the emergency services idea (does lollipop man count) most woman love a man in a uniform, and cowboys and indians, just to relive my childhood. When I was in muggle land I held a rock and pop theme, plenty of tina turners and slash, and also movie stars, Marilyn was popular. Maybe just go in Mufti

Pirate theme was popular, but you can piss the organisers off and confuse the average punter by turning up as either a Somali boat taker or one of the PLO squad that took the Achille Lauro!!

We went to an Aussie themed one recently have to say it was brilliant fun and relatively easy for folks to find suitable outfits at no great expense.

Now I'm more confused than ever cos they're are so many great themes to choose from, as well as those who don't like any theme's at all. Ok I think I'll choose one and if people don't want to give it a go that's up to them. Thanks for all the great idea's.
