Abandoned/derelict buildings?

Linlithgow

I have a friend who has agreed to photograph me and we'd like to find a suitable derelict building that would be good for photos. Does anyone know of anywhere the chance of meeting 'innocents' are low?

Ideally we're looking in the Lothian and Fife area.

Thanks in advance.

G.

Its getting a bit cold at the moment but if you are researching for next spring...

East wemyss caves (they are secluded and great for shadows) be careful of people walking dogs or exploring. The Court cave is haunted.

We tend to go to castles but I can wear a dress and I never wear pants....hee hee....so its easier.

(You have to have a good sense of hearing to avoid embarrassing moments)

A good tip is getting an "OS" map and looking for ruins and secluded areas out of the way... then research them during winter and revisit in summer. (Have two or three location options on the day of the shooting, just incase someone is there)

just some ideas...

Xxx

Tbh true abandoned/derelict buildings are rare because of past incidents where people have been injured or killed exploring. Any you do find are locked up tight to prevent access and a lot may seem like there’s nobody about but nowadays the building may be empty but it’s being remotely monitored.

Yeah it's pretty popular come to think of it.

There was a building just up the a89 at uphall industrial estate but they've literally just demolished it. Old offices or something.

Thanks, I'll house east fortune a look. As you said, I've been googling then, I find word of mouth has a better quality control than Google

Also an old (very small) wee building on the coast at grantshouse. Bit further than you might want to travel.

Smugglers house or something.

St Peters Seminary. Access is pretty difficult these days, since it was used as an art installation. It is also popular with regular urbexers.

glasgow west

as folk say there are lots of building that could be used for shots . the best thing is to think of what you want to shoot then go to the location that would suit.the bigger the building the more shots you can do properly , so if it is a derelict shed then only do one or two shots as after that they get boring

I know my way around 'toxic' environments. Most aren't toxic, though there may be asbestos present, which whilst dangerous isn't 'toxic'. Careful observation and management can abouts exposure to asbestos or other toxic materials.

We bought a ruined castle book from a charity shop to keep in the motorhome and is our bible when traveling about in the summer months, coupled with Google maps can't go wrong.

But as Nessa said good hearing skills essential, calculate the risk verses the time you need.

There's something special about castles that inspires us, probably the history and knowing what has come before.

We have already spied one out for our next adventure when we are on holiday x

That sounds great, ruined historic buildings are cool and offer plenty of good settings. I have to say, I really do love abandoned urban spaces though. Not sure what it it's about them, possibly I am able to imagine the people there previously, possibly I don't have the imagination for older places.

My old workplace is now an abandoned building.

I pass it every Wednesday taking my grandson to football training.

Quite sad the way it’s been just left especially with the amount of development that has gone in around it

Shame
