People seem too quick to turn nasty

Glasgow

So I wouldn't say I'm an avid poster on the forums. I like to lurk and sometimes comment.

One thing I've really noticed is how fast people turn nasty and down right rude to others.

I fully understand some things said are jokes between people who know each other but the vast majority are from those who see it fit to shoot others down.

It's really sad to see, adults acting like petulant children and seemingly adding comments just to provoke an argument.

Please take a chill pill and remember you're chatting to other humans. It's not big or clever to act like you're better than everyone else or that your opinion is more important.

Opinions are like arseholes, everyones got one. Doesn't give you the right to act like one tho!

Just a background character

Some folk could start an argument in an empty room.

I'll probably regret this comment. Awaits backlash.

unfotunatly part of fab - remember its not your real life - there are trolls , liars etc etc on here - but for the most part the regular contributors are awesome - if it starts to bother you too much just remember its just pixels on your screen and switch off for a bit - just my 2 cents,Bloo x

2 cents accepted. But I will add, and not in defence of Fab, but I've encountered far worse chat/behaviour/whatever on sites or FB groups that are far more "innocent" in their "intent" than here that can be be even worse than some of the comms I've witnessed here.

It's less the site than the shield of anonymity that the internet as a whole offers some folk. My 1 cent.

Totally agree there. People seem to have no regard that they're talking to another human so they turn in to keyboard warriors.

Now I'm 3 cents up

It's people inability to accept there are different views from their own and they are not always right.

Some need to get the last word.

What's the saying?..

Agree to disagree.

It’s just another way to filter out who you wouldn’t want to meet .

Remember it’s a small percentage of fab that use the forums so there’s plenty

“ normal “ folk to interact with .

Their was a post a little while ago where a guy was having some trouble hetting replied i know this happens every week but the posts quickly went from friendly advice into nasty digs at the guy "don't like your photo, not enough effort in your profile, if the OP doesn't get a meet soon he'll be gone in a week, etc" it was pretty horrible to read some of the things being said i think a few folk here posted on the thread aswell the only reason i'm bringing it up is because the OP actually left the site and that really is the shitty side of fab basically bullying someone out of the site and community. I'm in no way an angel i even spent half of last arguing with some racist arsehole on another forum but theirs definately a time amd a place and that guy didn't say or do anything offensive but was torn to pieces anyway

Not called for but you do get guys asking what's wrong with my profile as I'm not getting anywhere.

Maybe that's why he got criticised?

Or not as if seen posts go south for nothing also.

That's definately what ruffled feathers like i said it happens every other week and gets pretty boring relatively quickly but that's the first ive seen fire and brimstone raining down like that on someone tbh the guy seemed pretty genuine it didn't seem like the usual attention seeking "nobody likes me" post it was a just a wee shame to see things go down like that

You can now see who the posters are that can't help themselves or want to look cool

I'm sure I'm not then only person who avoids certain people posts now as you know there only there for an argument.

Love a good debate but some really don't know the meaning of that now on here.

Most of the time if I see someone picking on someone else I won't let it go and I'll say something.

Then other times I look in, see the usual suspects with their shite, and cannot be arsed with it. Childish, pathetic and tiresome.

Luckily most people here are decent folk.

Oh yeah there's definitely more nice than nasty people on the forums and the site in general. Just gets really sad tho when you see people jump on others then all of a sudden it's like a pack of lions around a carcass and they're relentless!

It's actually made me afraid to speak up sometimes as they can be quite intimidating.

It is a shame a lot of people feel the same way and avoid posting for those very reasons..it's easy to say post as you want and just ignore the trolling.. maybe just maybe if enough people post and completely ignore the trolling posts they might just might get bored big ask but you never know lol xx

People post people dont post for a whole bunch of reasons im seem as one of the bad guys and I couldnt care less.

I like the forums as a means for actual debate and for talking of issues and the whole butter yer biscuit crew get tedious.

its often claimed I say things wrong the question is do I or is it folks interpretation and willingness to get butthurt in a heartbeat.

the forums should be multiple things for multiple folk at times its not and cant go into that for fear of being banned.

But Kola, we used to have heated debates on the forum but it very rarely used to get personal or descend into a slanging match. That’s when debate turns into shit.

You and I rarely see eye to eye on anything, however, the old debates used to be great and I have always said that whilst I don’t agree with you, I’d always fight for you to be able to say it and debate it.

But I fear that’s all gone now

yup I said years ago that where we are now was where it was heading.

unfortunatly it will be very hard to get out this situation again cant say why I feel this which is another problem that only really manifests in scotland forums.

that should be a hint at problems that this section appears to work diffrent to the rest of the forums

There can be a full on heated argument in other forums but for some reason the Scottish forum always gets trigger happy with forum bans?

Been accused of being a Troll on here myself as that seems to be the easy way out when someone can't come back with a valid response to back up something they said with no foundation, or if you have a difference of opinion from the establishment.

I enjoy a good debate and if I post it's my opinion which I'm entitled to. It's not to win friends.

The reason some debates seem to go on is that some posters actually don't have a point in the first place and can't back anything up that they've said but don't have the humility to accept this and merely keep posting in an attempt to save face when in reality it becomes even more apparent that they don't have a point.

Then there are a few little creepy posters who hang onto others coat tails in an attempt to win friends on here. Offering "good guy" comments and what they think others want to hear.

It's not a popularity test, it shouldn't be about winning friends, it's about having an opinion and voicing it or else the forum is a waste of time and is just dominated by people pedalling nonsense with their own agenda.

I have friends in the real world, I'm not on here to win friends. I welcome debate and someone having a difference of opinion and if he or she can make a decent case and back it up I may well see their Viewpoint and change my opinion. I don't care if the masses hate me on here. I think if more people were open about that it'd be refreshing.

And for the record I have read loads of threads where I haven't posted where someone has made a really good point and I have changed my thoughts on the topic or looked at it a different light.

"Been accused of being a Troll on here myself as that seems to be the easy way out when someone can't come back with a valid response to back up something they said with no foundation, or if you have a difference of opinion from the establishment.

From my limited experience here I'd agree with you (please be my friend ) except on the point of agreeing with others. I think that is totally valid to express in a debate as it lends weight and often a different perspective.

Also "own agenda". That's essentially a mission/goal/objective - what ever that might be for the individual we all have an agenda for being here in the first place and also for expressing our opinion on a post (or not as I often choose).

Feel expressed now.

"Agree kola and Andy.

There can be a full on heated argument in other forums but for some reason the Scottish forum always gets trigger happy with forum bans?

Weird ehe?

It's as if someone's losing an argument bang!! The other person is banned or the whole comment or post disappears?

I read a lot of the other forums ...think the biggest difference is they don't become personal battle grounds like the Scotland forum

There is hassle on other forums on fab, actually an awful lot of hassle but I'd say that on the Scottish ones it's very personal with one trying to get one over the other "

Agree with you. I simply see it as a reflection of their own unhappy lives - jealousy is also rife on fab.

I agree, if you see something from gen same perspective and another poster and contribute that to the debate that is totally valid and actaully as we found out a few nights ago lots of women felt the same regard a certain issue. That's made me think about things differently as I don't see the female perspective and it clearly wasn't just one females perspective.

I was more referring to someone chirping in with no real conviction taking sides in order to be popular and won friends. And of course everyone is entitled to their own agenda, that's life, but when the agenda is merely to win friends and think you might meet on here by not being yourself, saying what you think they might want you to say and having no real conviction in what you are saying that doesn't impress me very much.

In my opinion these people are often just as responsible for debates becoming heated.

Everyone can see right through them, they just lack that insight themselves.

The beauty of Fab, or an site, is that you can simply log out, put your phone down and completely disengage from the arseholes/shit stirrers/arselickers. If only real life was this simple.

I'm suppose to be here for some dirty fun and titillation and refuse to be drawn into other folks' drama. My own life is eventful enough.

This is not being bitchy but showing how we can all be at times with people we dislike so its not meant to be personal and I include myself in this. I think for me and id love to think everyone else, if there is someone posting whom you dislike, take a wee while before you comment on their post and think, am I brining a valid point or being constructive or just replying cause I do not like that person.

I remember one forum post and the issue was quite interesting and a lot of people commenting, cant remember what but one person, who I admit I do not like as I have never messaged that person privately and the only contact has been nasty comments to me on the forum occasionally but sometimes in a way to put people on their side in the hope they do the same to me (this is my viewpoint, might not be theirs). Not once have I ever instated it, wound the person up to start with etc... I haven't been nasty to the person except sometimes in retaliation or to make sure that person know that my comments/post was misunderstood.

Anyways the person made a comment to someone and actually, I totally agreed with what they said so their comment, I changed a little and then emphasised why I though the comment was correct to the Op and then that same person replied by saying 'please do not quote me, its rather creepy', what's worse, it wasn't exactly quoted, same meaning, words changed about.

When you think of that, there was no reason for it, none whatsoever, all it needed was just to leave it alone as I had totally agreed with what that person said and I wasn't wanting to be pals wit them.

I've seen, (my view only), not so nice people on here on posts and actually I've seen their viewpoint on a post and agreed with them or I've even changed my mind on my views because of their comments but I wouldn't be bitchy against them cause I dislike them even thought they have a truly valid point.

The forums can be a great place if we used it for its true purpose.

its a Scotland forum and everything and anything can be talked about, openly debated and see different viewpoints and reasons for such. I know I will try my best to keep it that way

Yeah that's exactly what I mean. You see people going out their way to disagree with someone, even if they contradict themselves.. purely because they don't like the person that's answered them. Its beyond petty and it just breeds hatred. Not called for at all. You see those same ones jump on the band wagon to gang up on someone then in the same breath get upset when someone challenges them. It's hard work to keep up and one of the main reasons I avoid them.

Maybe we should exercise a bit more humor, even more humility and huge amounts of self restraint. We really don't have to type all the pish that enters our head when we read something. I believe it's called maturity, or is it just not being an ass hole.

The trouble with maturity is, that technology is developing faster than some people can mature.

Totally agree.

There was a post recently where it got a bit heated and a few of the regulars that I've had problems with in the past on here with and they didn't show up on the post in a good light. AND I never posted on the post in questions, (I stayed away), and I wasn't even taking enjoyment cause they weren't coming out looking well, I genuinely just wished they had realised and just stopped and no go any further.

Looking back I will say this about myself, wished id a done the same, even though I've came out well on most (where's the blushing emoji). There's comments made directly to me and usually there's no reply, I see them but no point replying.

If we just have posts with humour, laughs, chats, discussion, debates this place would be so much better and enjoyable that more people would join in instead of it just being the regulars, (including me).

ffs, I don't wanna keep making posts up all the time cause I want the forum more interesting.

common newbies, lurkers or first time poster, get stuck in, debate and have a laugh and a good time

As ive said many times before, some people dont know the difference between a debate and an argument, or they do know the difference and throw in a handgrenade , let it explode and sit back and watch the thread deteriorate into a slagging match for amusement .

For the record when the insults starts that means youve lost the debate as you can no longer say anything civil to strengthen your opinion. Some people are very good at throwing handgrenades in the scottish forums. OP i totally agree with your original point. Xx

As a relative newbie couple we are treading very carefully. It is however obvious that as with all forms of social media there is an issue with people who hide behind their computer screens and comment negatively about people’s posts as they have a degree of anonymity which protects them and can often (I guess), lead them to be less sensitive than they would be on say FB for instance. This degree of anonymity also provides us all with a platform to be bolder when contacting other profiles. This is the healthy side of that but unfortunately there will always be ‘yang’ to our ‘ying’.

Life is too short and there are many items on the bucket list to get through without being hindered by the trolls who are best ignored completely, blocked and reported where possible.

Stay happy and yes slip the odd funny in but remember if you think that someone may be offended, save it for your private chats with someone who will appreciate your humour. J&G xx

Personally I think the debate is lost when someoen can't back up their point, theyve been proven factually incorrect or in response they try to deflect from the main point of the debate.

Also being described as ignorant does not constitute an insult if your response clearly demonstrates you are ignorant of facts relevant to the debate. It is merely an observation which you have proven yourself.

There is hassle on other forums on fab, actually an awful lot of hassle but I'd say that on the Scottish ones it's very personal with one trying to get one over the other

Agree with you. I simply see it as a reflection of their own unhappy lives - jealousy is also rife on fab.

I know I will try my best to keep it that way

except for that guy over there ----- my cock is way bigger speaking and quoting me AGAIN.

It’s beyond belief that the person/people who cause the most friction are the ones that blame it on others! I think the majority of people see through them but there are always a few that hang off their every word!

Comments are made here and offence has been taken and that offence has been replied to by saying im out now. That commented has been congratulated afterwards by not rising to it. All these comments are rising to it !! What happened to ignoring it. People could have just not said anything and its over. All these innocent comments escalate things too. Plz no need to reply here its just my opinion and to reply would escalate things further.

Sorry but I disagree completely. Having read the posts above they were clearly ment for one person in particular and were ment to cause offence just done in a very underhand way. The poster could have said there was a post in particular I did not like but instead chose to go into far more detail than was required to recall a post that someone clearly disagreed with him on. It was clearly intended to try and get a bite for whatever reason and I think the “time to bow out” comment was completely justified and shows that not everyone needs to sink to the same level. Again this is just MY opinion .

I agree with this. But I wouldn't expect anything less of the poster.

To be honest I thought he was referring to me to begin with as he's had told me he dislikes me numerous times.

I've had to see a doctor about it as I can't sleep at night because of this.

But it does ease the pain a little to know that I am not alone.

It's as if someone's losing an argument bang!! The other person is banned or the whole comment or post disappears?

I read a lot of the other forums ...think the biggest difference is they don't become personal battle grounds like the Scotland forum

There is hassle on other forums on fab, actually an awful lot of hassle but I'd say that on the Scottish ones it's very personal with one trying to get one over the other

Agree with you. I simply see it as a reflection of their own unhappy lives - jealousy is also rife on fab.

I know I will try my best to keep it that way

except for that guy over there ----- my cock is way bigger speaking and quoting me AGAIN.

So how im bowing out of this post.

Was fun while it lasted guys

well done for not rising to it

100% behind you on this but thats where most of the arguments are coming from people biting. And i myself am very guilty of biting all to often but as lots of people have agreed here ignoring , completely ignoring bait is a better answer. X

Im not going to add anything else , not so i get the last word but i really dont want to hijack the OPS great post. Xx

Thank you. It's all good though. Definitely not the worst forum thread I've seen for going off on a tangent but it's kinda expected. I just dont like it when it gets really nasty and personal, that's usually when I just leave the thread. Xx"

The OP made a great post and I'm sure after a certain post last night was the final straw why the OP made the general post.

My comments on this post were not personal and was not intended as such it was showing how a stupid comment by someone was made in the hope that it will escalate and unfortunately the usual ones who also dislike that person join in with more stupid comments like (It was clearly intended to try and get a bite for whatever reason) and other stupid comments like (To be honest I thought he was referring to me to begin with as he's had told me he dislikes me numerous times), that's the normal and wont change from the same people, just twisting things when others are reacting. Its constantly time and time again and they jump on the bandwagon and cant help themselves.

The detail of the post where displayed to show how something so trivial can be made bitchy against someone you dislike, even when the quote was agreeing. The person in question I don't think could be identified as it was about a month and half ago and anyone who remembers it other than myself and that person it relates to, I would suggest is a sad individual.

Its the usual lot ganging up and guess what there is no way on earth I would report any of the people who do it as I'm happier to have it shown to show what they are really like, myself included. I know for a FACT I didn't do anything wrong on this post, didn't goad anyone, I wasn't bitchy and no even reacting the usual comments.

take it whatever way you want on this comment as I know it wont change the views of people who dislike me, it will still be twisted into what they want to hear.

The start of my post stated
"This is not being bitchy but showing how we can all be at times with people we dislike so its not meant to be personal and I include myself in this. I think for me and id love to think everyone else, if there is someone posting whom you dislike, take a wee while before you comment on their post and think, am I brining a valid point or being constructive or just replying cause I do not like that person."
but this was as per usual totally ignored because the person is disliked.

Again the OP has made a great post and it should make everyone, including myself look at how we post and think, why o why am I saying that

Are you implying I’m ganging up on you? I thought I clearly stated MY OPINION was that your post was unnecessary. The person you were clearly talking about identified themselves in a post after yours, no Sherlock Holmes required so you don’t have to be a “sad individual” to know who it was!

Not implying, I'm stating it

That's your view, again for a debate.

But clearly it wasn't, (my view, only going on previous replies you've made to my comments on how I'm feeling or what my intention are or were, when you clearly do not know them or me), it was showing how a personas dislike for someone is the reason for taking a SIMPLE AGREEING comment and twisting it as that person did.

For your information I wasn't CLEARLY talking about anyone, I was giving an example of a post, no Sherlock homes. No one would have known who it was if that person didn't make stupid, daft comments about it when again, there was no need as again CLEARLY no one would have known, what even sex the person was never mind their name. FACT.

If she had kept her keyboard off, no one would have known it was her but she just wanted to make it argumentative FACT and thus it leads YOU to state what my intentions are when again, you haven't a clue.

I will state, I'm bowing out of this post and if I say I'm bowing out, I actually will.

All my comments and the ways there were intended, reasoning behind them are there for all to see (whether you believe the or not) and anyone who states it differently are just either trying to twist or shit stir.

You didn't name anyone and clearly said you weren't trying to start a fight. Just unfortunately it seems to have been taken out of context and people have jumped to correct you.

Thinks can easily get misunderstood via text on a page and it gets out of hand very quickly.

I really appreciate people trying to come together and even being brave enough to say that even they can be at fault. Sadly this doesnt seem enough for some.

It was not taken out of context at all, I knew exactly who he was talking about as I remember that particular argument it wasn't long ago. And I am pretty sure others knew who he meant too. He clearly expected her to get stuck in to him over it, so he could hold his hands up all innocent saying look how I am getting attacked here. She didn't even rise to it and still he is playing the same card! Just pointing out that it's been noticed. The whole "I'm innocent" look has gotten very very old

All just proves why I made this post in the first place. Doesn't seem to matter what's said as people will just get nasty no matter what. No wonder people like myself stay out if it coz it's worse than a bloody school play ground.

You all clearly seem to hate each other. Not one of you are innocent as you all argue with each other.

Never known a place like it. Fin ridiculous behaviour from all as you all keep it going.
