Titanic 2 - 2022

So nice and simple, would you sail her?

The ship will even follow the same route as the doomed ocean liner, which famously sank on its maiden voyage between Southampton and New York City

Personally I'd love to but that's just me, lightning doesn't strike twice and well the technology is there now to guide and make the journey safe

My opinion for what it's worth is the name should be left in the past ..yes I know some ships are built to replace older vessels and carry the same name but is there really a need to rename it titanic ..sailing on it is not something that would appeal to me tbh not because I think it will sink in this day n age but more a respect thing for all those lost all those years ago

Possibly cost a small fortune but I personally think it would be worth it, possibly a little bit of history invested along the way

I agree. If they can build a commemoration into it then I think that would be fitting. There’s a guy who lives close and he’s an expert on the titanic and goes all over the world. Must ask him what he thinks

The titanic

Built in a sectarian ship yard with an open policy that no Catholics were allowed to work there that that went on for 60 odd years after the ship sank.

Any Catholic found working in H&W who hid their religion was tortured and beaten. They don't tell you that in the museum. Northern Ireland's shame and embarrassment.

It was a ship that sank, there's nothing glorious to remember about it and it's just unfortunate and sad for anyone who lost relatives on it. People should just let it go.

3,000 miles trapped on a ship doesn't appeal to me. And linking it to such a horrific disaster appeals even less! I don't get the attraction at all.

The Titanic should always be remembered for what it was.

At the time it was the greatest and most luxurious ship of its time.

It sailed into waters without the necessary precautions because of arrogance. That unfortunately led to it hitting an iceberg and sinking.

But as it lays on the seabed, a grave for over 1500 souls, it shouldn’t be forgotten. Their lives should be remembered forever.

And as I said, if they can put a fitting tribute on board the new ship then I think it would be a great way to ensure their memories live on.

On a side note, I hope they plan to head to the last resting place on their first voyage to have ALL the passengers and crew throw flowers onto the water in rememberance

You are demonstrating your complete and utter ignorance. It wasn't simple bigotry. It was an open policy, a sick reflection of the establishment that ran the place. And no where is that reflected in the titanic museum in Belfast as it suits the government and council to glorify the building place of the titanic. Yet that secret is kept from the world.

How would you feel if the Ku Klu klan built it? Would you still be lauding it?

And the fact that you are ignorant to that makes you ignorant yes.

That should never be forgotten in all of this, racism, oppression, depriving individuals of human civil rights should never be forgotten or swept under the carpet. This isn't simple bigotry pal, and the fact you used that term again highlights your ignorance.

It's not a battleground. It's ignorance all round.

Some people on here don't know their history and facts and are all to quick to demean what someone says based on their ignorance and in an attempt to be humorous and play to the crowd.

To allude to what went on as simple bigotry shows not understanding and no willingness to learn. Too many know it alls.

So in the interests of your debating skills, as you alluded earlier to the fact that this was a debate. As yet you..

Haven't backed you anything you've said.

You think we should forget about racism, oppression, sectarianism and deprivation of human rights and even celebrate it if the people involved built a nice ship (albeit one that sank)

You haven't denied that you don't know your history.

You haven't acknowledged that deprivation of civil rights in your own lifetime in a country which is part of the UK was wrong.

You continually have referred to individuals being beaten and tortured in their workplace as simple bigotry.

And you still claim to....

I actually don't know what you claim?

Oh yes, we should forget history and let it go.

Easily said by a man who never had to concern himself with it.

Why don't you ask Colin Kaepernick and Nike what they think of it all?

That should make your decision much easier.

Fair comment....I was just exasperated at how a seemingly innocuous OP became yet another battle ground on this forum.

Yet only you know the facts but we're the know it alls. Keep digging

Why don't you ask Colin Kaepernick and Nike what they think of it all?"

You really really need to read what i said.

I quoted you , you said can we not let the subject of the titanic go yes , that was your words. But right before that you gave a history lesson on the shipyards and you were very obviously irate at the treatment of the catholics back then. I said it was hypocracracy when you want the subject of Titanic to be ' let go' yet you wont 'let go' the subject of the workers . I never claimed to know anything about the history, i commented on the contents of your POST not the history.

You said "the hypocrisy of my post was beyond bigotry".

I stand by my assessment that the titanic is nothing to be celebrated based on moral grounds. I recognised the unfortunate lose of life. But the ship should not be glorified given the circumstances under which it was openly allowed to be built.

Do you care to reassess that now you are better informed?

No insults now but certainly no Appologies from you either .

Yes im better informed but its all HISTORY why is one part of history less or more important than the other. Why forget 1500 lives but remember the suffering of the workers ?

Its All history.

You dont quote the soldiers that died in ww2 and forget the innocent millions who also were persecuted and killed.

So with your point , you cant remember the workers and just 'let it go' as far as titanic. Surely you see that point.

I said it should be let go because it shouldn't be celebrated. I then went on to say why it shouldn't be celebrated.

I never said anything about not remembering those who lost their life. What part don't you get?

Lifted but...

My grandfather saw the Titanic. He told everybody that it was gonna sink and they ignored him, but he just kept telling everyone over and over again that it was gonna sink. He was eventually told to shut up, but he wouldn't, and in the end he had to be removed from the cinema.

TD40, out of interest do you get seasick or are you able to eat drink and be merry in any storm?

Regardless of who how or what may have besmirched the ships built she sailed into history as the worst maritime disaster in living history.

Am away to watch Raise the Titanic a true turkey of a movie yet still watchable.

Strictly speaking, the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff is the worst maritime disaster, with an estimated 9,400 lost.

I liked the joke about Raise The Titanic: "It would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic"!
