Day of days

It certainly has been a day of days in the Scottish forums.

What i have noticed today was a lot of new profiles posting on the Scottish threads . Great to see loads of new posters entering and commenting . The scottish forums really need this wee injection of new people. Welcome all and long may it continue and grow to be appealing to all again.

Anyone else feel the same. ?

Thats a great point, we are all guilty of talking rubbish at times and it will continue but if we just roll our eyes and laugh at ourselves or others and take it as tongue in cheek humour and not look for the offensive in it , the place will be a hoot . And hopefully not intimidating as said earlier. Feeling intimidated in a forum is just not good in anyone thoughts.

What about threads with vile posts that conveniently disappear into the fab ether dont give a true reflection on someone when a new poster wants to "preview" their historical posts?

Yes sometimes a person posts something that they are banned for and that comment is taken off or the whole post is taken off usually because too many are trying to be bully's or something not nice, vile or nasty was said.

Right moving on as someone said earlier , what defines us is how we move on, i think best advice for everyone including myself is only to give advice when asked for it. A forum is for opinions , discusions and debates and that means ALL opinions whether there in agreement or not. Rather than bitching , debate your point. Some of us that are regular forum posters never done ourselves proud today in the scottish forums. Get over it move on and lets welcome all the new posters and let them find their own way in the chat rooms .

There is nothing wrong with lurking, some feel intimidated at times and honestly the more who post the better the place would be.

There are people who are nasty, people who try and bully, people who try and derail posts. We have all said things that are wrong at times and said something that wasn't conveyed the way its meant but with the green arrow you will eventually see who are the regulars causing hassle.

Then again, the more who just common to post and have a laugh or debate a posts comments then it can only get better

"I stumbled into the forums a few weeks ago. I've only posted comments a handful of times but have to confess I'm guilty of doing a spot of lurking now and then.

Then again, the more who just common to post and have a laugh or debate a posts comments then it can only get better

.

.

I have found lurking is proving to be a helpful for gaining a feel for the place so to speak or more so to suss out the people to give a wide berth."

We all do that to a certain extent

Oh actually wonder sometimes how some folk get through their day to day life being totally ignorant to the fact they are a horrible person.

All I'm saying on the matter is after today and 10yrs on this site I'm astounded how and why some get banned on here and some don't.

Does that work. never thought anyone would think of that one but normal moderators cant do anything to a post, can they? thought it was only the paid admin who can delete posts etc..

I tried to do my best to be back to normal but others just keep trying to stir it up.

Even on other threads they continue but its usually the same ones who join together in their dislike of someone but the newbies hopefully will learn from it and stay away from the person whom their are picking on or learn about the others who are picking on the person and think fuck this, they are the same or worse

Anyways newbies, post when you feel comfortable and post something you find funny or think a good debate cane ensue or even ask questions, the forums has many good highlights overt the years

Ok i didnt want the thread to go this way but , the only reason youve come on this thread tonight is to thumb your nose at all the forum users who thought you were out of order earlier. You could have graciously took a wee personal time out , let things calm down from today and move on after that , you never did that as you have stated on many occasions, you hate to lose . As you always say peter let people make up their own minds . Im sure some have done so today.

Guys plz lets drop the subject now. If it continues from now it really is simply detrimental to the scottish forums in general.

Is a newbie not new anymore when the image listed beside them as 'new' is deleted

Yep. And post a status "This site is crap, leaving when my membership runs out". But don't leave. Then my son, you'll be a man

"Question for the new people, do you guys n gals mind being called newbies or does it make you think longer term members feel superior to newbies. I say newbies but dont mean anything by it but would like an honest opinion from some of the newer members.

Personally, I find it condescending, elitist, smug and off putting

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel

Lol, but newbie? Really? Do we need to display L Plates?

Must we pass some kind of initiation ceremony (that’ll start a new thread no doubt), or recieve some kind of validation. from the cool kids on here (what’s the opposite of a newbie anyway?)

Well I'm not a cool kid but I'll happily initiate you once I've stopped giggling at the thought of fabbers wearing L plates haha"

Cool kids was maybe a bit harsh on my part...but it’s a valid question, what’s the oppusite of newbie?

I sort of imagine newbies being required to wear L Plates in their profile pics (maybe like fig leaves) until they are granted full status on here

Newbie/ new member/inexperienced fabber here. Well I have been a “lurker” on here a few times which actually sounds worse. Anyway, as a relatively new member to the fabbing world and the site this is my first ever post so I suppose I am also a virgin poster.

So many label!! As previously stated it can be quite intimidating to post on any of these forums as they have a tendency to get a little too serious and sometimes personal or bitchy. My opinion, for what it is worth, is that unless the topic is of a truely serious or sensitive topic then why can’t everyone play nicely with light hearted and fun comments. It doesn’t mean we have to agree and I do love a good debate but I’m able to be articulate and respectful.. whilst I may not agree with someone else’s opinion I respect their right to have that without the need to be offensive towards others.

I think the term newbie is deemed in this instance as a person who has just started posting on the forums, or am I wrong. They could have just joined fab or been on fab for years and never posted before so I'm guessing that's the terminology used in this instance of a newbie

If you post generic misogynistic comments on a public forum directed at women in general then you can’t complain if I take exception.

If we can all try our best to make it positive on here from now, then it would be a brilliant place.

We all make jokes with people on here, well most, me too and others who don't know that person personally may take offence. If its personal attack then the person being attacked has the right to reply but the best way is just to ignore them as they will eventually fade away and that includes me if I make a personal comment on someone.

The forums have potential to be a enjoyable experience and sometimes its not. I do hope that everyone feels comfortable to post on the forums whether they are new to posting or post often

Why does there need to be a term at all? We are all equal and our opinions are valid. The dangerous game is folks perceptions or misconceptions of others. Who am i a ‘newbie’ too? A new person wouldnt even consider another new person a ‘newbie’ by the defintion offered. So therefore it presents condescending and belittling regardless if intended!

Anyways newbies, post when you feel comfortable and post something you find funny or think a good debate cane ensue or even ask questions, the forums has many good highlights overt the years "

Hi Patti , i never thought of it as a derogatory term but having read the answers to my question clearly it is taken that way. Perhaps as this thread is coming to a close it would be good for a new member to starr a thread for discussion on this subject. Xx

Only certain people continue to try and be negative with their posts about others.

Trust me when I say, don't use the forums as a gauge of that person. You will find out your so wrong. People you think are an asshole might not be, people whom you think are brilliant may not be.

"Question for the new people, do you guys n gals mind being called newbies or does it make you think longer term members feel superior to newbies. I say newbies but dont mean anything by it but would like an honest opinion from some of the newer members.

Personally, I find it condescending, elitist, smug and off putting

Agree!

I think the term newbie is deemed in this instance as a person who has just started posting on the forums, or am I wrong. They could have just joined fab or been on fab for years and never posted before so I'm guessing that's the terminology used in this instance of a newbie

but what do I know

Why does there need to be a term at all? We are all equal and our opinions are valid. The dangerous game is folks perceptions or misconceptions of others. Who am i a ‘newbie’ too? A new person wouldnt even consider another new person a ‘newbie’ by the defintion offered. So therefore it presents condescending and belittling regardless if intended!

I do not participate regularly in the forums! But regularly read them.

Hi Patti , i never thought of it as a derogatory term but having read the answers to my question clearly it is taken that way. Perhaps as this thread is coming to a close it would be good for a new member to starr a thread for discussion on this subject. Xx"

By pointing out that ‘new member’ should start a post may be seen as condescending! Nothing personal to you, just sharing my opinion and my perception on the matter.
