Hiring a kilt for an upcoming wedding.

What tartan and jacket combo looks best?

Traditional to go for your name or a family name.

My dad found one for our name, our clan name and our ancestors clan name....

Mind you, grey is awesome!

I like a more casual look. I own a five-yard kilt (rather than the heavier eight-yard) in Spirit of Scotland tartan, and tend to wear it with a ghillie shirt and Jacobean waistcoat rather than formal shirt, waistcoat and jacket.

Also go for the ghillie shirt and waistcoat look myself.

Glasgow

Just make sure your kilt is measured properly. Nothing worse than a kilt that is too long/short. Traditional is nice, but some of the newer tartans matched with grey are lovely too.

Just a background character

To be fair a lot of the clan designs aren't really that nice, so a trendy modern interpretation - grey whatever - is a good way to go sometimes.

Yeah, my clan design is a clash of colours that do not fit well, and certainly wouldn't suit my skin tone.

When I bought my kilt, I initially wanted Highland Sky, which is gorgeous, but it's classed as a speciality tartan, and would have added five hundred quid to the price, which I couldn't afford at the time. Spirit of Scotland is nice enough too though.

Buchanan has to be one of the worst. But to be fair tartan associated to a name is quite a modern thing.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Seen a cracker on line today, grey kind of checked with thistles through it, looks great.
