Films That Make You Think

Flicking through Netflix last night trying to find something worth watching and came across a film I hadnt watched in over 20 years, Mississippi Burning. In light of the current rise of racist/far right groups, Boris the Bastards comments about Bhurkas, the mass adulation Tommy “The Tit” Robinson receives from his knuckle dragging acolytes and Donald Trumps barely concealed Xenophobia it made me think....has society really evolved as much as we think it has since the heady days of Civil Rights in the 1960’s? Which film or films havw you watched that you found thought provoking and made you take a less parochial view of the world in which we live?

Freedom Writers

When I think back to school and all my classmates trying to get on and excel but all with different back grounds, some with disfunctional families it was so hard for some whom I bet felt isolated at times, like the film. What's worse is today I work and try to develop some amazing kids who some have the same trype of background.

Be great to have everyone without any worries n who can enjoy life and develop and totally express themselves.

So many movies!

On the top of my head I would say.

'The help' a fantastic book and movie.

Make me think of the simple things I take for granted such as sitting where I want in the bus, etc...

To your point about society's evolution.

I want to think we have but then... something happens and I realise that only 'some' have evolved and that 'some' have been left behind with no hope to catch up any time soon

Made me weep unashamedly. Can remember the Cambodian famine of the late 70’s that arose from the same Khmer Rouge brutality. Excellent film!

Even reading the Courier front page today shows how little things have moved on, and Trump/Brexit aren't helping.

The crucible for me, watch the movie at least once a year, seen the play, never get fed up with reading the book, shows how way back then how easy people it was for people to accuse you of witchcraft for their own personal and selfish gain or as means of revenge, very much a staple of society today minus the witch burning.

And second favourite is Of Mice And Men

Shows how easily people are judged to be something they are not, and it’s a wee sad one.

We're already there. Check out the TV channels and make a mental note of the countless reality programmes that earn non entities fortunes just by acting stupid and crass. Idolising and holding up people like Jordan, Kardashians as role models for young folk.
