Oh nostaligia for the days when all you needed for a reliable car was new plugs and points along with a regular oil change.

Now its £40 per hr labour, and extortionate parts....oh and the obligatory Diagnostics.

I had an Audi A6 on contract hire for a couple of years and HAD to get it serviced at an approved Audi dealership to keep the agreement.

I suppose I have the advantage of being a car geek with a garage full of tools and a scrapyard on the doorstep.

The downside is that it only breaks when it is freezing cold and raining, never on a sunny day.

yeh i used to help my dad fix his cars in the past but now don't have the dexterity in my hands to tackle a lot of the jobs i used to manage myself

plus a lot of garages see a single fem coming and think - easy money she doesn't know a thing about cars.

All those over priced labour rates, but you do know the people on the tools still get piss poor wages.

Thanks to all the big dealer groups.

have a load of great friends own garages and they all know i can sniff out a bullshitter a mile off, most of the jobs i could do myself but choose not to, ill fix things for other people but not myself, i get my labour done cheap and always get the parts cheap too, shop around for good deals dont bother with dealerships to be honest

there are mobile guys come do the diagnostics alot cheaper and if you phone around alot of independents have the diagnostic chips no need to go to the main dealer but alas theres always the things like alternators etc that u cant just use universal parts for but again if you get these online much cheaper

Depends some garages have the parts already on the shelf. The man i visit prefers cash for a reason, guess what two week waiting list to get stuff done. You know that the job is done though.

The nice folk at renault Stirling fleeced my dad, once bitten twice shy. After an apology by the manager, they knew they had just lost a a customer of 7 years.

Is it worth complaining to Renault after all who would get the bullet.
