From personal experience, prefectly acceptable, if the beach is suitably remote or unoccupied!!

Gullane beach is amazing for it as it’s a climb to the dunnes so your in secluded areas. We had our first trip there the other day and it is now my favourite beach

You might have to watch out if it's a place covered by the prohibition of consumption of alcohol in public places, quite a nice cocktail though

I was once told by a policeman that there’s only an offence committed if someone catches you AND that person is offended... dunno if it’s true or not... we didn’t get caught anyway
