We were looked at by a couple who won't meet anyone with a personalised car no plate (which counts me out). This has to be the most bizarre reason not to meet I have seen in my many years on fab. Unless you can tell me different!!!

Maybe they think people with private car plates are a bit to suave and sophisticated for the ordinary commoner to meet with. It is true to an extent but all us private plate holders are different. No preference if your a commo er or not.

I find cherished numberplates pretty pathetic. The ‘good’ ones are a vulgar advert for how rich the owner is. The rest are just an indicator that someone is gullible enough to part with money for something that barely resembles whatever they think it’s supposed to look like. I find the whole thing pretty sad.

I’m not saying it’s a total deal-breaker, but it’s one of many factors indicating whether I’ll like the person.

It’s cheaper to change your name by deedpoll to the car reg than get a plate that’s near to your name or title .

Nope..I get that..for many, a personal number plate can mean a pretentious insecure prat who wants to be defined by their car.

Or someone who simply wants to also hide the age of the car.

We all have our own preferences - for us it's a high standard of dental hygiene and smart dress.

I think you’re somewhat missing the point. No, it doesn’t always come up. It’s not something I’d specifically ask someone. I don’t always ask people their views on the death penalty, or soap operas, or TERFs, or professional wrestling, either, but if it comes up in conversation, and they hold a view I disagree with, it may be one of many things that sways my decision about whether or not I’d like to meet them.

I can picture the scene. A trendy bar. Smooth music. The clink of glasses. A stunningly beautiful woman is talking in hushed tones with a man.

"...and then my mother presents me with a private number plate for my birthday." she says.

At that, the man finishes his drinks, makes an excuse and flounces off, secure in the knowledge his integrity remains intact.

Why ?

I find cherished numberplates pretty pathetic. The ‘good’ ones are a vulgar advert for how rich the owner is. The rest are just an indicator that someone is gullible enough to part with money for something that barely resembles whatever they think it’s supposed to look like. I find the whole thing pretty sad.

I’m not saying it’s a total deal-breaker, but it’s one of many factors indicating whether I’ll like the person."

Well that's one viewpoint.

All the best from

"Are you jealous of peoples wealth?"

Not particularly, no. It seems that, no matter how much people have, it’s never quite enough for them. I’ve got too much stuff cluttering up my life as it is.

.

"Are they all queuing up to meet you like?"

No, they’re not, but that’s got nothing to do with whether or not I want to have sex with somebody.

.

"Never ceases to amuse me what you read on here, what about designer clothes or expensive jewellery? Is that a filter for you too?"

Actually, yes; certain designer clothes, and certain types/amounts of jewellery would be an even bigger indicator that somebody is not the kind of person I tend to get on with. Newsflash: different people like different things.

.

"Nowt as queer as folk ....find this hilarious (and far fetched) that people would refuse to bed a hottie because they had a private reg ...comedy gold lol "

Show me where anybody has said that.

Sorry but I have to chuck my tuppence in...

..If you like private plates, designer clothes, jewellery, brown shoes, steam trains, heavy metal or any other thing in the world. Rock on , hope it makes you happy.

It doesn’t define you. What defines us is how we interact with each other.

Stereotyping people by private reg plate, car, clothes, jewellery, income, job or broon shoes is madness, at its least, its a form of very sad snobbery (or inverted snobbery). At worst it’s the first step of the Donald Trump school of thought of pitting people against each other ..... try and remember it’s only a car registration plate. We should be more concerned over people speeding in cars or D*unk Drivers.... just my view ...

Get a grip, and don’t be so naive. Nobody is claiming that cherished-plate ownership absolutely defines everything about somebody. It does, however, tell us SOMETHING about them. Not everything, but something. Just the same way as every other thing you listed tells us SOMETHING about the person. It doesn’t define them completely, but defines a part of them. Your Donald Trump comment is ludicrous. We’ve all got things about others we don’t like, it doesn’t mean we’re inciting hatred. You’ll notice nobody has tried to tell others what to feel about cherished plates, just explained why they feel the way they do.

And yes, if someone is a d*unk driver, that’s more important. Nobody is saying otherwise. But why stop there? Drink driving, as awful as it is, isn’t as bad as sexual abuse, or murder, or genocide, is it? So why are you worrying about drink driving when there are worse things? Because it’s a fucking daft argument, that’s why.

You’re getting perilously close to Godwin’s law with the line you’re taking. Take your tuppence back, it’s worthless.

.

A total comprehension failure. Well done. No, I don’t have a dig at women having preferences. I joke about those who list demands. Those are two very different things.

It’s also worth pointing out, once again, since some of you seem to have a real difficulty understanding fairly basic sentences, that at no point have I said that a private reg meant that I would definitely say no to somebody. I specifically said that it was NOT a deal-breaker. Just that it would be something that would (and does) put me off someone. Not completely, on its own, but it’s a bit of information, if received, that would be part of the big picture.

Clearly your missing the point here. What information are you getting from a private plate owner that could even remotely help your decision whether or not to meet someone. ? Plz tell me ? . Or have you simply stereotyped EVERY person with one. And if you have not stereotyped EVERONE with one then surely it becomes irrelevant whether to meet them or not. Another example of , cant win with you.

My dentist has F 1 LLS. Personalised but related to his work. Shows his profession but he’s a lovely guy, excellent at his job and if he was 10 years younger then yes I probably would

I still don’t see how you can judge someone on an item they’ve purchased. Although to be fair I didn’t meet anyone at first with the same name as my ex. But I got over it.

You do realise the irony of blocking on the basis of a personalised registration ? Swinging parties used to have a bowl for car keys! Would you go outside and check out the registration plates before picking a key?

Original post states:

So maybe you should read the original post which clearly states that the person looking at them won’t meet anyone with a personalised number plate! Therefore no meet also equates to not sleeping with them.

I certainly was not justifying my reason for buying something the same way you dont need to justify buying flowers on mothers day for them to die and go in a bin after 2 weeks. Or buying that special piece of jewlery for a loved one. Maybe if you opened up your mind and realised THATS why they are called CHERRISHED number plates or private plates.
