"Good news for teeth! "

Yeah true lol

Although they could have done what Coke Cola done ever wondered why it says classic Coke Cola ?

Its shocking as we already have diet Irn Bru now they aint giving people a choice if the want to buy full sugar Irn Bru

Oh well Barrs will feel the pinch when people dont buy Irn Bru any more as it wont be coming in this house until they change it back even if it means paying abit more at least give people the option if they want the full sugar one

Don't get me started!

People choices, our choices as consumers are reduced more and more and we get manipulated with that!

Read yesterday a School down South will search their pupils school bag in the morning and remove from it all 'unhealthy' food!!

Totally out of order if you ask me!

And dinnae give me the obesity and stressed NHS old arguments lol

Well that's my Thursday rant done

Limiting choice suits a vendor not the consumer. yes sugar can be bad for you .........guess what artificial sweetners can be worse

no more treat saturday for me then as all diets and zeros all I taste is sorbitol and aspertame.

It might be better for you but the problem is Barr's are takibg the option away from people who prefer the full sugar version

I have saw me cut right back on full sugar soft drinks since my dad died as it did spook the hell out of me but i would like option of knowing i could still have the choice to buy the full sugar bottle every now and again

I have to say the low sugar ie diet Irn Bru to me just does not taste the same a full sugar sad times ahead lol

I agree.

I don't like people taking my decision making away from me! I have a brain and I know how to use it!

I have a vision of us wearing bar codes at the wrist and having to scan them at the till lol

1slice of cake/month...

Sorry, You have exceeded your allowed portion!

1unit of alcohol/week...

Sorry, You have exceeded your allowed portion.

Put the wine back

Time to detox

Yep, there will be government led adverts, campaigns soon, similar to the drink driving, anti smoking laws (not that I'm condoning either) shaming folk into changing their lifestyles so that they pay someone to wipe their arse in their twilight years.

You should have bought a few crates of it. In ten years time it will be worth a fortune like an old matured wine.

"Although they could have done what Coke Cola done ever wondered why it says classic Coke Cola ?"

Well Coke's way of dealing with the Sugar Tax is to increase the price by 25p and reduce the bottle size. However to keep it universal they'll be reducing the size and increasing the price of all the other Cokes, including the Sugar-free ones???

Being diabetic, I've been drinking Diet/Sugar-free Irn-Bru for years, however even before I was diabetic, I preferred the taste of it. In my opinion it just tasted a bit "fresher".

Although there's no sugar in it, I'd suggest folks try Irn-Bru Extra as it tastes like how I remember Full-Sugar Irn-Bru being.

I agree I've never liked diet irn bru felt it tasted like the normal 1 but watered down. Since they brought out the irn bru extra i prefer that to the full sugar 1.

I think a big part of the problem is what exactly is this sugar tax......for me its a pretend its about health and gain more revenue something I feel the govt is guilty of a fair bit. Im capable of making my own choices regarding my food and drink consumption without big brothers aid.

as for the perception of this one or that one tastes like full sugar they may do for you but to others nope they taste like bin juice

they cant taste like sugar because they aint sugar some are 600% sweeter than sugar carry major health risks (aspertame even has an illness named after it). As others have said the peoblem here is our option is being removed which leaves a bad taste in the mouth worse than sugar or the sweetner options.

There are a myriad of reasons why this is a problem.

1: Taking the choice away from consumers. Max has outlined clearly why this is bad.

2: The adverse health effects of the sweetners are higly debated but some studies indicate that they are worse than sugar in other ways.

3: Those sweetners also have been shown to cause weight gain due to the empty calories that your body thinks its getting then doesn't so you find yourself craving more fuel and end up storing the actual calories you do consume.

4: This sugar tax targets the poor, as does the whole junk food tax. It cost more money and time to eat healthy, processed food with poor nutritional value but that can be purchased in bulk is cheap. Rich people eat a different kind of unhealthy food.

If you can't tell this is a bone of contention with me. Sorry for the rant. Fake sugar and fats are bad for you.

Wondering if the sugar tax will effect my home brew. My next batch of vodka and schnapps requires 8kg of dextrose. That’s a lot of sugar

You mentioning Diabetes Mandy made me think of an instance when my dad was about to fall into a diabetic coma due to very severe low blood sugar caused by a double dose of insulin. (big dafty!)

Without one of those high sugared drink in the cupboard, pouring down his throat, he would have been gone!

Hopefully, no one else follows!

I have myself many times went into a shop for a sugary drink because I needed a quick sugar rush.

You're opening another kettle of fish there, as Lucozade (The saviour of many diabetics) is also reducing it's sugar content. It was halved last year, and it's to be reduced further. they had also previously introduced their Zero range with practically no sugar in it.

The best thing your dad (or any diabetic) can do is to get a hypostop added to their prescription.
