Sparky knowledge requested and appreciated. Lounge light not working . 2 x 3 core wires coming out ceiling. Both lives connected to a conector block to join them a im guessing make that my continuous live , 1 neutral going to lighting connector block. But the other neutral has been red ringed and also connected to the live lighting connector block im thinking this is now the switched live. No work has been done on the electrics and it has been working fine . Help appreciated.

Light switch itself has been swapped out so wall switch not the problem.

It’s shocking nobody has replied to your post Hopefully a nice electrician will be along shortly to help you out is there only one switch for light or is it controlled from two separate switches opposite sides of room ?

Hard to give advice without seeing it in person but general setup sounds like it should be.

2 sets of 3 wires from the ceiling. One being live in wires and one the wires going to the switch.

Earths should be joined together or to a block.

Live Phases (presumably red) from switch and live in together.

Neutral from the live in (presumably black) would be connected to the neutral going to the light.

The neutral that’s been red sleeved would be your switch wire that gets connected to the live wire for the light fitting.

Ok thx thats exactly how it is. Ok Light switch has been tested in another room so switch is def ok. Back to cieling now. When i touch the 2 joined reds with an electric screwdriver it glows bright red but when i test the neutral red sleeved it lights dimly . Any ideas on that issue. Also tried wiring light straight to 2 reds and works ok so light itself is ok only prob when i connect the neutral red switched live you said. Thx for any advice.

Neutral red as were calling it is going to your light switch that’s the wire that should become live when you turn your light switch on.

That should only give you a light on your screw driver once you’ve flicked your light switch to on

check consumer unit first to find which fuse lighting circuit is on. You can then switch it off to do do any work safely.

as above - live cable(s) should be identifiable via screwdriver lighting up. This should then link to switch and back. So use screwdriver to work out which is switched live cable.

depends what the light problem is ... could be earth connection? Or damaged cable? ??? Or increasingly bulb failures ...

Anyway - you are quite close if you need me to look (i’m Not a qual electrician - but used to do electrical work b4 all the certification now required). D (can’t message you due to settings)

Colours of cables should be:-

Red (now brown) = live

Black (now blue) = neutral

Green (now yellow & green) = earth

If no Work has been done on the circuit then there shouldn’t be a wiring issue.

Even new lamps can be faulty.
