I've been thinking about this for a while and just saw a stats that made me post this for a wee discussion/feedback session.

The first message, 9 times out of 10 sent by the single male, be it on fab or any reguar dating site. Most men should be aware how difficult it to send a first message without sounding either generic, cliche or long in translation (internet humour with someone you don't know doesn't always work).

People on fab don't put personal information on thier profiles so it gives us single males very little to work with. Although its sensible not to have this information on your profile.

So my questions are these, what types of first messages to woman/couples on here generally recieve? What kind of messages are you expecting to recieve? (Given the complaints over boring how're you, copy and paste messages).

Or is the secret actually down to an initial attraction before any heart, depthful conversation even takes place?

To the guys, how do you go about the first message and be honest, copy and paste, sommething generic, prince charming, catfish photos, something funny? Would you say it works?

The funny thing is though, as rare as it is for a male to recieve a message from a female or couple, in 4 years I've maybe had 4 and they've all been along the lines of "Hey" sometimes I got "How're you?" How many woman reply to that message.

Otherside of the coin lol.

You hit the nail right in the head there talking about the messages women send first. But too be fair, guys out number women like 5 to 1 on this site so can see why they dont really need to message first.

I see this a lot on the forums and the best answer I can give is there's no such thing as a perfect opening message. The right message to the person at the right time is what it all boils down to.

I usually look at the profile before I even read a message. If its got no info, nothing but cock pics etc. then I lose interest straight away

I would tend to look at the profile and mention something within it so the reader knows I have actually looked .

Honest answer ... the first message needs to have pictures attached, those pics need to include a face and i need to like that face ... if those 3 boxes are ticked i will reply to almost anything ive been sent (even "hey") with the exception of messages that sound like someone would be too impatient (ie wanna fuck now or some other pretty crass opener)

Call me shallow all you like but i wont be fucking people i dont find attractive and while i need a personality i click with too its much quicker to filter out on looks first personality as a follow up than the other way around
