My fave old granny saying was, "we fair thought we were airchie".

Think it means you felt real chuffed with yerself a while.

Luv it!

scots language centre lists

clarty: adj - filthy muddy

but no listing for clatty which i find strange as I am used to both being used.

What comes of being mixed in with all corners of Scotland...lol

near the fife coast

"yer a clarty wee shite go get the clout fae the bunker and wash yer gub" meaning I had been out all day down the quarry (park) and was covered in dirt (I was 8!!! it was in my job description) and I was to get the cloth from the counter top and wash my face.

If I say to my kids get something from "ben the skullery" or "aff the bunker" they look at me like I have 3 heads

I'd never heard clatty or clarty until I heard it from some girls from Paisley when I was a teenager. The closest I can think of that's used up in the north east is mochit or mochey lol

Yup, i was informed this yesterday in a private reply. When i replied 'no, you shut up! X' i was told to 'fuck off wanker' (harsh but true) and blocked. I'll never learn!

Ps. Add another to clerty's tally.
