Who's been? Who's going? Where's the best one in Scotland?

I'm thinking of exploring the glasgow and Edinburgh xmas markets this weekend

I’ve been to both. I’m from Glasgow and those markets are crap. Edinburgh is so much better although if you want the best markets try Manchester.

Aberdeens Christmas Market is incredibly disappointing. Having been to Gdansk, Berlin and Hyde Park my expectations for a village like Aberdeen are maybe a bit too high

Was going to go this weekend, thinking I’ll give it a miss now!

As others have said, I'm afraid Edinburgh pees on Glasgow from a great height in this respect. Worth getting there earlier though as it gets really busy. Find a good bar afterwards and then come back when it's dark and the lights are at their best.

Glasgow is just a bit basic. A couple of bars surrounded by a few tatty stalls.

Couldn't agree more, it's embarrassing. Went to the Edinburgh market last week and it was brilliant

If you’re looking for burgers, hot dogs and German sausages go to Edinburgh, if not go somewhere else

Edinburgh

I do my best nowadays to avoid them. Far to commercialised and too crowded.

Go to the Edinburgh market. I got a lovely hot chocolate there while moseying about the gardens soaking up the atmosphere, just lovely. Glasgow's is rubbish x

Same tat every year. Over priced donuts and mulled wine and shit you'd never even consider buying otherwise.

Paisley

Glasgow has two. It’s usually better at St Enoch. I was at the one in Hyde Park a couple of weeks ago. There’s plenty of vendors all selling the same things really.

I found the St Enoch one better as there’s more induvidual vendors. Otherwise it’s all wooden Christmas ornaments, tealight holders, scarves and jewellery.

I’d agree with the overpriced donuts and crepes.

Edinburgh looks nice but not much I'd want to buy - usually get a few drinks and have a wander for the atmosphere.

Edinburgh

I think the "final straw" for me in terms of Christmas Markets was when walking round the one beside the St. Enoch Centre.

There was a stand for Thai Curry and one for Macaroni Cheese.

What is Christmasy about them???

When I think Christmas Markets I think of Pfeffernüsse, specifically the small domed ones covered in icing, but I've not seen them at a Christmas Market since about 2009.

Edinburgh 100% beats the rest in Scotland. I have been twice already and am back again next week, but this time with a vanilla model for some images
