Go for 07 upwards if the budget allows. The earlier ones had electric and gearbox issues. Cracking wee car and BMW build quality to go with . 1.4 petrol cant be faulted . I had one and loved it . May be a squeeze if you do a big weekly shop. Side note there are only 4seats in older ones

Agree with last comment, pre 07 plates R53 model was new and had a few issues, post 07 R56 model definitely much better, still few weak spots but every car has something, they do use oil so keep eye on levels

Im a mechanic and honestly their riddled with faults timing chains, body control modules thats some of the expensive ones and ill let u into a secret the petrol engines are actually citroen/peugeot group not bmw ??????

for the use as you say, buy a ford focus or ford fiesta, much more reliable and a mountain of cheap spares

For the price of a mini id look at seat ibiza its a vw golf with a diff badge good reliable motors

I've had 2 minis I loved driving it that much. Have drove a different car last few years n have to say wouldn't go back to a mini as they come with expensive problems once your out of warranty and paying yourself
