So, i'm planning a trip to Inverness next month. First time going.

What's top of the list of things to see/do - apart from the obvious stroking the nessie, while admiring Urquhart castle....

also, any recommendations on cottages to stay.

thanks fabbers!

Was up Inverness a few weeks back, we went up in the car and stayed in one of the hotels across the river from the castle (atleast I think it was a castle). A gorgeous wee place but there wasn’t too much to do, next trip up will be on the bike to really take in the scenery and have another mega chilled out weekend.

Go a bit further north and stay at the castle in Dornoch.

They have a superb whisky bar and a gin distillery around the back.

Not sure what stuff you are into, but I liked the Clava Cairns. Some just see it as a pile of stones but I find these neolithic and bronze age places magical.

Try and go when it is quiet and just suck up the magical atmosphere.

The viaduct nearby is also cool.

Fort George I found boring, Urquhart Castle is ok.
