Tom Petty has died. God rest his soul.

66? He had many years of music ahead of him.

I'm one of many heartbroken fans tonight.

RIP

A tremendous artist with a hugely impressive port folio of work spanning the decades.

Sad loss.

Seems a bit self-indulgent when so many have died, but sad at TP's passing.

An amazing songwriter, amazing back catalogue.

At time of writing, he's still reported as alive, but critical. Someone jumped the gun with the earlier report.

His song "The Last DJ", lamenting playlists imposed by big corporations.

One of those songs that so captured these times.

He was a great campaigner as well as a brilliant act and a top human being.

The Los Angeles coroner's office attributed his death to "multisystem organ failure" due to a "mixed toxicity" of seven medications. They are fentanyl, oxycodone, emazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetyl fentanyl, and despropionyl fentanyl.

OXY alone is a horrendous medication

Someone basically, he was drug dependent. Like all the rest of them.

It's hard to have sympathy.

I’m drug dependent too just like the deceased and like him they are all prescribed by either the hospital or my GP. At any time I take the wrong dosage and I could also wind up dead

So why the prejudice against a rock star for fucking up his meds

Here's took a drug overdose and died. Granted it's reported he was in pain, granted he was on various medications, but I'm quite sure he'd have had access to better medical provisions and treatments than 99% of his fellow countrymen.

Simply raising the alarm rather than pop pills would have seen him treated.

Needless, pointless, totally avoidable death.

Do you need the instructions written inbigger writing? Mine say, take 3 twice a day with food, pretty easy really!

I was in severe pain and had also just fractured his hip, it is difficult for anyone to judge what he took and if he was in sound mind when he took these medications, pain can cause you to do many things

When you suffer suicidal tendencies and depression it is very easy to forget to take meds then double it up the next day

When nobody is monitoring your medication for you it becomes very easy to OD to kill the nightmare
