glasgow

would like to hear peoples views on taxis late at night.

discussed this with drivers they say its the council that works the rules.

why does it cost over £5 to open the door, coming up is sept weekend,no problem fri and sat,you wont get a black hack on sunday because they have made there money, its meant to serve the public.

I suppose I will get the abuse,i am no skinflint,i pay my way but its not right in so many ways.

It is presumed that taxi drivers make a lot of money

However....

You have to pay for your council licence

Special insurance

Radio or weigh in cost

High cost of wear and tear on own car or rental cost on someone elses car

Fuel (driving empty between jobs)

No sick pay or holiday pay

No wage if the car is off the road for repairs

And thats just for starters

I personally have no problem paying what they charge.. if i did id take my own car

Glasgow/London

Uber has been much cheaper i find for my trips to airport. Nearly as cheap as just getting the bus!

But the last time i was booking, it was 3x base fare

Booked a taxi instead- much more comfy and no awkward nosey conversations with an Eastern European driver

Alot of my friends are taxi driver most like to claim poverty while spending extravagantly others dont mind telling you that its very lucrative eapecially if you own the car (s) and rent them out also. To make money they do put in the hours though.

This... and as Kola said it CAN be lucrative but you need to put the hours in.

I still hold my taxi licence and would do it if stuck.

However, you have to;

Deal with vulnerable people whilst getting them where they need to be.

Be aware of the people who will attempt to rob or threaten you.

Soak up the loss of the ones who do a runner.

Sit for hours without a fare some nights.

Clean up spew, meanwhile the car is off the road.

Dundee

I rarely drink so usually take my car, so I have no idea what a taxi costs these days!

It can't be the most rewarding job - very unsociable hours and a lot of hassle.

I spent a fortune on taxis. Get one most days, most the drivers locally know me by first names now and I know Half their life stories lol

Most of them say the same thing there isn't any money in it nowadays. X
