If you go into updates on your mobile, it asks if you want to switch it on. It means that you can see whole conversations without having to delete messages and less likely that people will fall into the abyss when you have too many messages. Xxx

Are you browsing in incognito mode (Chrome) or similar in your browser? That won't hold the setting. I stay logged in, so don't get that issue.
