"I am a big boxing fan, watch a lot of it at different levels, but this fight is a pantomine and a joke and wont have me interested. There are much better match ups up and coming, worth watching more than this circus. For the record, there is only one winner and thats Mayweather. Just up to him when he wants to stop it and give the crowd some value for money. Phoney fight " I agree with all that, I would much rather watch Josh taylor who I think will go on and become Scotland best ever boxer

"P.S MMA.....nothing but legalised thuggery" why ? Its a sport the same as boxing so you tar one as thuggery the other has to be also. along with k1 or any contact sport. its a weak argument to define one sport as barbaric while claiming another is ok. boxing for yrs was claimed to be barbaric and nothing but legalised thuggery im sure you didnt agree with that theory so why claim it of another sanctioned sport. I sont really agree with the new form of fighting gaining momentum right now but with enough support it will also become sanctioned az its what peolle want (bare knuckle boxing or toe the line)

"I think its a sad indictement of the current state of boxing that a charlatan motormouth like Connor McGregor has been granted a licence to box. Having grown up in the era of Hagler,Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Alexis Arguello, Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns I despair for the noble artI truly do " You missed out Alan Minter and Chris Eubanks. Could also throw in John Conteh. Don't get too upset, even The Greatest took the cash by staging exhibition bouts. It's just a circus really.

"Im really suprised at the hate being spouted here. he got a boxing licence because he proved he is capable (I know the haters will say bought). End of the day the guy can fight he is renowned for the punching power even mayweather gives him kudos but no not the stick in the mud boxing fraternity. mayweather ring rust wrong side of 40 never been blessed with power used to standard boxing angles. I believe folk may be a little shocked at what may happen. then again its mayweathers only shot at winning as he would never step in the octagon. 70 30 in mayweathers favour especially if he survives the first five rounds. (Already got a tenner on mac in th third) " This. Anyone thinking this is a fake fight will change their mind after the first nine minutes if it lasts that long. Mayweather will see things he's never seen before and whilst I think that he'll take it on board and adjust accordingly before he starts to pick McGregor apart in the latter rounds there's a significant chance he could get KO'd. There's a humble side to McGregor that boxing fans haven't seen yet after a fight and it's going to make him a world star.

"Mayweather's game is not being hit. Love him or loathe him (it's the former for me), he's the best defensive boxer of his weight and generation. Almost every artist of the craft has barely been able to lay a glove on him, so I can't see a novice being able to do so. Much as I don't care for Mayweather's persona and attitude, I dislike McGregor's more. The real shame for me is, the public are going to make two of the most loathsome characters in sport richer than anyone could possible dream. That's the real sadness here. Given the sums involved, the pair of them could have done their reputations and huge favour by donating 10% of their purses to a charitable cause. Prediction: Mayweather to toy with and tire him out then put it to bed from about 8 onwards. " I agree wholeheartedly with this. As an ex semi pro boxer AND martial artist I see this argument from both sides. Both have big mouths and a lot to say however this is only to get bums on seats and mugs to pay for the TV P2P. On the night forget Floyds age or 2 year ring rust etc all that is out the window. We are looking at the best defensive boxer pound for pound in the past 20 years. Conor will be lucky to get near him. Also remember Floyds earlier fights when he steamrolled through the divisions he can punch and is more than capable of ending this early. Conor is NO boxer and his stand up skills in the Octagon are limited. He shouldn't be allowed into the ring with ANY top ten rated boxer nevermind someone like Mayweather. My personal views on them as humans doesn't count here as both are excellent salesmen who happen to throw punches for a living The RESULT In a boxing ring under Queensberry rules Mayweather wins whenever he wishes In an Octagon under MMA rules Conor inside 10secs. My tuppence worth for what it's worth

"We've got McGregor to knock him out or get DQ'd before the 3rd. 10 years younger, 8oz gloves, taller, heavier, longer reach and Maywhether has never fought anyone like him. We don't think his technical ability has a chance of saving him from that monster left hook." Totally this

"Shown up by a man 11 years his senior who has come out of a two year retirement. If the rules had been applied as though it were a world title fight McGregor would have been disqualified within the 1st 4 rounds - I counted at least 3 "hammer fist" punches from McGregor. Hopefully this non-event, absolute bore of a bout will mean that there will NEVER be such a "cross over" again. " I'm not sure he was shown up. It was more a case of a boxer beating a fighter. . . they both specialise in two different sports. McGreggor isn't in the same boxing class. . . by country mile . I hope the boxing authorities put an end to this kind of mismatch. . . But we all know, money talks and the men with the money can and will press for more of the same.

"I'm adding a comment as someone who knows very little about this... BUT... my view is... firstly both men are fighting for money... end of. In THIS fight the boxer (Mayweather) will win because McGregor can't use all his skills (amazing roundhouse kick I'm told). So it's like putting a tiger in a fight and saying you can only bite, no scratching. Basically he's a fighter who has "one hand tied behind his back". Could Mayweather stand up to McGregor if those tables were turned... I doubt it because he doesn't have the skills and as some have said above this fight is about two astute businessmen making money. Still folk are entertained so perhaps everyone is happy Personally I'll never watch any of this kind of "sport". I appreciate there is violence in this world and that in some real life situations physical defence is a reality. However for two people to get into a ring and deliberately hit each other on the most vulnerable part of the human body, potentially causing severe harm, long term disability or death... I fail to see the "sport"... just an opinion and obviously not held by many or the two men involved would not be multi millionaires. In any case, each to their own and hope ya'll enjoyed " while I fully understand your viewpoint as its not your thing perhaps you dont grasp the full scope of what it is to be in a contact sport. for myself its more akin to a chess match with greater rewards and sense of achievement. I like almost all contact sports not because they are barbaric but because they believe in their skillset and mental powers to pick apart the others defences. I know you wont change your mind though itssomething to ponder alot of those in the fight game gain great pleasure pitting ttheir selves against another and anything else dosnt compare.

However you're right Kola whether it be Martial art, which in my opinion is more geared to safety as they can fight with control and have an ethic about striking certain body areas, or boxing which specifically targets the most vulnerable point, or cage fighting which is perhaps the most brutal... "I would never jump out a plane or skid down a mountain (yeah I probably would damn it) bungee jumping I would definatly not do. Lol I believe they are only availible (I steer clear of allowed as that means some higher authority has control over us which I believe to many folk think) some are happy with a walk in the park most get their kicks from other means I said above theres an up and coming wave of new "contact sports" which I would have no part of but I would have to accet them. Hell the dangers of bakers far outweighs being stomped by a spartan army " All of those are solitary pursuits and don't involve threatening violence on another person but HELL YES they ALL involve an adrenaline rush... I don't grudge consenting adults the right to get that whichever way they decide ( even watching/paying to see two people beat each other senseless but I'd rather shag someone senseless... interestingly enough as I'm sure you know it's the same drive... adrenaline is adrenaline

I grew up with Boxing, Martial Arts and Mixed martial arts in the house and know many guys practicing and they are the nicest, non-violent guys you can ever meet. Hence why I would not say barbaric. And I would go in the ring with Nicola Adams for that amount of cash " This I also grew up in a family of pro boxers, martial artists and have devoted a great deal of my life to the fighting arts. The recent spectacle in Vegas was an exercise in how gullible the sporting public were in spending huge amounts of cash in a one sided fight. If Conor had not been a World Champion in the Octagon this would never have been allowed, Yes if the roles were reversed and the fight was under UFC rules then Floyd would have lost once Conor took him to the ground as he has NO. grappling experience

"I couldnt agree with one sided (mayweather and his camp also dont agree with it) The stats also contradict although that could be put to mayweathers age. He took the most shots hes ever took. most plaudits also dont (most having mayweather at a possible small advantage ie one round) as a spectacle I actually enjoyed it. I also knew mac would blow himself out thats part of his game though. would I enjoy more.........yes but I would like more cross over maybe allow elbows or knees above the waist. all in all it was more entertaining than 90% of boxing at present (only bother watching aj now) to many turn it into an us vs them thing instead of enjoying what is being displayed for them"

"I have a foot in both camps in terms of the spectacle. I'm a Krav Maga practitioner which, whilst neither a sport or a martial art, combines many aspects of different styles of "combat" (boxing, karate, Muay Thai, jujitsu, judo, wrestling) but I'm also a boxing nut having been fortunate enough to have grown up watching some of the greatest boxers the sport has produced. I didnt view it as a spectacle or enjoy it, thought it was an absolute farce and did more damage to boxing than good. 2 guys between them walked away with hundreds of millions of dollars for what was nothing more than a televised sparring session. This isnt me knocking MMA in any way I just struggle with all the hype over what in my view was an absolute farce and was in no way a demonstration of what boxing should be about. If you want to see to real boxers demonstrating what the sport should really be about search YouTube for Arturo Gatti v Irish Micky Ward, particularly rounds 7 through 9. "
