Going to be joining my friend at the gym who currently does this, finding I'm not getting the results I want from body pump. I'm not wanting to be like the people you see in competitions but would like a bit of definition.

Anyone else on here do this or have any advice for a newbie?

Sent you PM.

If it's weight reduction as such it's all about calories in calories out.

Mass / size/ weight increase is entirely dependant on calories consumed as opposed to calories "burnt"

Definition is entirely dependant of body fat reduction. Hope that helps

Thats precisly what I mean if you look up keytones and how the body uses energy sources for definition you want to cut over exertion of the muscle tears allowing the body to grow more. Ive recently been getting rid of excess weight (all diet driven)

Agree with Kola's both comment.

In addition to your gym routine. Cut carb (bread, pasta...). Eat more proteins.

You have to burn more than you put in.

I find a light evening meal early in the evening works for me and a lemon/ginger tea later on.

Takes a bit to get used to but stick with it xx

That's what I have been doing since last September. Ginger queen here lol use it a lot now in various ways.

Fresh ginger, fresh lemon, teaspoon of honey add boiled water. drink in the morning on an empty stomach and wait at least 20 mins before eating.

I use turmeric a lot in my cooking. I read that to have the full benefit of the turmeric you need to add a pinch of cumin with it

I don't touch weights never have don't need them for boxing/martial arts as the muscle weight slows you down.

I have my calories in set at 1500 per day and currently burn around 2500-3000.

I don't go near a gym at all these days.

Bought a Fitbit and walk an average 10,000-15,000 paces per day I also downloaded one of those 7min fitness apps to work my core.

Have lost 3 stone and sitting at what I consider a comfortable weight.

Definition is there and if I really pushed it the abs would be back to my fighting look

Only lift what is achievable while maintaining good form, do NOT worry what everyone else is lifting. Gym envy can be disasterous and set you back big style!

Have fun though!

Train as fast and as intense as you can, ie super sets, alternate exercises, little rest between sets, your body will be burning calories long after you stop your workout and tone you at the same time

Also think about doing compound movments such as squats deadlifts chest presses back rows and clean and press. They use large muscle groups and will burn more calouris

Carb cycling is good for dropping bodyfat. But generally counting your macros is a good place to start to achieving the body you want.

A 5 egg omelette every day for breakfast.

Eggs = awesome protein + cholesterol.

Your body takes cholesterol and turns it into so many vital compounds it needs including your hormones.

Increase your testosterone with short intense exercise as Dr mercola advocates and your body will respond in due Course.

The protein is in the egg white.

So if someone has Cholesterol problems, the yolk is not recommended. Plus all the fat is in the yolk. 0 fat in the white. Check with your GP if unsure.

Alternatively, disregard some of the yolks.

Or shops are now doing cartons of egg whites, brand is called 'Two chicks' which are very handy if you don't want to waste yolks after yolks. It's in the fridge department.

Hope this helps

I can't comment on the diet as I struggle to actually put weight on as I'm so active so I need to eat about 5000 cals a day lol .

However, I was in the gym the other day and I was listening in to a PT giving advice to a girl in your simular quandray.

I found it fascinating as he recommended doing the opposite of what everyone else does.

Instead of lifting a heavy/moderate weight for a few reps/sets, get a 45lb barbell with NO weights on it.

Set a timer for 10mins per different lift and do as many as you can do in that time obviously stopping when you need to.

The most important thing is slow and controlled movement with good form when doing it.

I tried this with the following

Standing barbell curls

Standing tricep extensions

Sitting military press

It's not as easy as it sounds and the pump you get from it is insane.

Maybe she is on recovery/rehabilitation mode or working out with an injury.

The cholesterol myth - paleo plan.

I had a bad angina attack 4 years ago and cured myself of heart disease. No statins. No stent op. No beta blockers. No aspirin.

How did I do it?

NATTO

Completely reversed my heart disease in 2 years.

I eat 5 egg omelette for breakfast about 4 times a week and a big nutribullet thingy on the other mornings .

Yes My cholesterol levels are high. Good. My testosterone levels are good too. And I'm fighting fit. Feel better than when in my 20s or 30s.

Oh you said every day earlier!

Like I say do what works for you!

If you have a medical condition and/or unsure ask for advice and tweak to your body and conditions.

When it comes to diet it is not a one size fits all.

But that's my opinion and experience of it.

Fair play nawtymax, I'll concede that I was vague and didn't adequately define what was a recommendation and what I actually follow. Most folk, myself included, probably don't have sufficient time in the morning to make an omelette every single day. Also same thing every day can get a bit tedious Ken.
