I've not been abroad in 14 years but I have the opportunity finally to go away somewhere early September.

Looking for somewhere warm but not mental, I am Scottish. Nice culture, architecture, night out all that.

Wondering where people would recommend? I know of some cities around Europe with great reputations but anywhere would be intetesting

Barcelona one of my 'on tour' fav stops. Gorgeous Gothic quarter worth the trip alone. Good atmosphere in Las Ramblas (the ramblers) big tourist street and a great food market just off that. If you like rock music there's a great wee bar at the south end of the gothic section which does amazing cheap food.

It's only a €5 ride to the airport on the bus too and about 20 min journey.

Agree with both above posts. Although if you fancy a bit of beach time as well as sightseeing then I'd be more swayed to Barcelona but Rome is soooooo amazing!

Rome is amazing and the ice cream and pizzas are worth the trip alone. I also like Turkey and Olu Deniz in particualar. Loads of history as well as beaches, boat trips and good food.

I'd say Rome... all that sightseeing then a short train journey if you fancy a beach day. We're there in 5 weeks

Try New orleans, fantastic place.

The old town is fun at any time, and food is excellent. Though I wouldn't go in the height of summer, heat is excruciating. (locals head over to French man's st, for an even better time)

(Lee writing)

One of my friends just got back from Greece (Rhodes). She said it was lovely and cheap. I asked about the refugees and the effects on local tourism.

She said there was some visible refugees but it was not a problem nor was there any bad atmosphere towards them.

She had a lovely 2 weeks.

Nessarosa and I were thinking norway cruises or log cabin.

Or Puerto Rico (I have family there) or Tenerife again, I use to live there.

Hugs

My next jaunt is going to be Naples. Great food, weather, culture and history. Just over an hour from Rome, too.

Rome is amazing but the beaches leave much to be desired

If you like snorkelling or diving then Greece or Cyprus are pretty good

There is a little coastal town in Spain called moraia that I loved - I could live there

Read this thread and it gave us a notion to go back to Rome so we've just booked up for a few days next month.

It's going to be scorching

Barcelona also has an amazing swinging scene, if you could team up with a girl you will have a ball there. There are 5 main swingers clubs there and we love two of them especially.

A world of my own

I went for a chilled out few days in Marrakech last year. There were some nice bars and the weather was great. It was the end of March and 28.
