School summer holidays back in the day

No idea, I'm lost. Damn Sat nav!

How good was it back in the day making tree houses and dams and tree swings over the burn, jumping across the water without falling in and running through the fields.

Rhubarb and bags of sugar.

Playing tennis and rounders for hours during Wimbeldon.

Pevers and hopscotch .

Come on share you childhood summer holiday memories.

Just got me thinking that kids have been out of school now for a week and the streets are so quiet no doubt playing games consoles for hours which I guess is a sign of the times.

Used to leave the house first thing with your sandwiches n wouldn't return till it was dark, those were the days. We had moors behind our house n used to walk for hours probably doing things we shouldn't have been lol. Now they won't leave the house if there's the tiniest bit of rain

You hated staying in the house... nowadays they don't want to leave it. We've got one who would stay in his pjs for the entire 6 weeks if we allowed him

Yup out all day playing in the fresh air.

Defo agree with the rain comment, took the wee dude to balloch park in the drizzle the other day n there was not a soul around. Bonus as we had the whole playpark to ourself. Its sad that kids dont get to enjoy the outdoors so much now. X

Was never in. Lived on a farm and was always up n out first thing, in for lunch n tea and back out again.

That or cycling/ walking for miles.

My kids won't even walk to their pals these days!

Hardly see any kids out playing in the streets these days. Sad state of affairs.

Put an age restriction, like fags, on mobile phones.

You don't. Apart from my close friends who are mums n we all have the same logic that your skins waterproof n the fresh air will do you the world of good i dont think i really see many kids out with prama or bikes etc.

Ny wee dudes favourite park is finlayston and rain or shine we spend a whole day there with a picnic and we make mud pies and look for beasties etc and tbh i have as much fun as he does x

I dont think its just down to technology. I think parents are more scared in this day and age of children going missing not knowing whos living around you etc.

Not saying its an excuse but it woukd definitely be in the back of my mind when my wee boy is old enough to go out and play with his friends unsupervised x

I've got one who'd never go out and another that's never in! He and his pals are always away out in their bikes.

This is what we have! But tbh like pinup said because of the way the world is we're quite happy for him to stay at home. The older one is always out on his skateboard, he's a bit more streetwise

I loved getting to stay out late cause your mum and dad were out talking to the neighbors or catching your bees and wasps in your jam or beetroot jars

My school holidays were spent working in my dad's cafe for a pittance! It put me off waitressing for life I might add!

Interesting to read of everyone's different experiences though

I used to play on building sites and in factory grounds when I was wee. It was exciting. There was no health and safety restrictions, big fences, cctv cameras or threat of prosecution.

My kid climbs the fence of our locked at night, local park to play in it. The police get called.

Children don't have as much freedom now. Locally there is nowhere for them to go. I'd love my kids to have a childhood like the one I had.

Playing out in the streets? Isn't that for "special women"?

Summer holidays are for snapchats, sleeping, creating noise in shopping malls, and playing on xbox/ps until the eyes bleed

Yes that's true also, though I think it's as much blown out of proportion by the press/ social media as anything. Dangers have always been there, I don't think they're any more or less in this day and age.

Lol totally. Used to be loads of disused mine buildings between my village and the neighbouring one. Used to cycle about on the bings (one is still burning yet) and climb all over the buildings - when they weren't being used by the glue sniffers!

A world of my own

I've been at work all week but my boys have been out and about all week with their big brother. Lots of different places and they have loved the bonding time. Not all kids are glued to screens, though I think they will be glad of a duvet day next week!
