Ive been searching online for a new car seat for my three year old and seen a few i like.

The question is they come with something called isofix. Ive googled it and it says its a system that attaches directly to your car.

The last two seats i had for both kids used the seat belt through the back of the seat.

Is there a big difference in safety?

It's an international safety standard on all cars and has been put through vigorous safety tests,it's now fitted to nearly every car

Don't think so,I think they were introduced late 90,s and most cars started to get them from there on

You can't use isofix without the car having it installed during manufacture. Your car won't have it.

Think cars after 2007 have to have these as standard and 2013 for the new system where it also has a leg that goes to the floor (not sure of the name of it. But a lot of isofix system also can be used with seatbelts as well. My brother has a hauck car seat that has isofix the leg thing to the floor and it can also be used with a car seat belt

Easy way to check if a car has isofix is to put your hand flat on the seat, push it to the back and to one side.

If you find a square metal ring on each side, that is the isofix anchor point.

It just enables quicker and easier seat installation and is great if you swap seats between cars regularly.

As for is it safer? I don't think it's any safer than a correctly installed seat without isofix personally.

It was a maxi cosi he was in up to three years.

Well got my dad to check for me bless him and my car doesn't have the isofix feature.

Thanks for the input folks would have spent exra on a seat that didn't fit.

Did the law not change recently to say all seats sold must have iso fix and kids can't ride in a car without it? I could be wrong but sure I was told something like this and realised at the time I couldn't ever take kids in my car in future I have a 91 golf so respect to someone else with an older vw

God dont know about the law but where we are there are loads of older cars driving about.

My mum still has one from new that her and my dad bought when they moved in together. B wont let me near his car as he says i will just crash or park it where someone will crash into it lol

No, that's rubbish. They wouldn't be selling non isofix seats would they

The law change was cushion booster seats no longer allowed to be sold, hi back boosters only x

Isofix is the safest car seats you can get.

If your car gets hit for whatever reason, your child's car seat wing move about with ISofix.

If you are just using a standard car seat that is kept together by a seatbelt and is hit, the car seat will move about which may cause more injuries

Just because you HAVE isofix doesn't mean you HAVE to have more babies to use it
