All you domesticated Ladies out there.

Tell me, when you feel inclined to hang your washing out to dry in the breezing sunshine is there a formula in how you hang it out ?

Im aware in how to push it up 9 inches ..

Corff..

But ..why the need for a stretcher to push that washing line up merely several inches ..

What difference would that make to the drying time ?

Feel free to educate me and by all means rip it apart for some light hearted domesticated fun

GO

The further up it is the better

On a serious note I think a clothes prop is there as support as the line will sag under the weight of wet washing

I don't think there's an actual reason for it.. we probably watched our mothers do it and thought, oh, I must do that too.

If that's not the answer then I have no clue why we do it, we just dae, right

My method is trousers together shorts together t shirts together towels together and underwear together. And they all need to be hung up the proper way. If its not right it drives me insane.

As for the pole its to stop my dogs swinging on my washing..those extra inches make a difference ya know

A world of my own

I don't use a stretcher but I take great pleasure in getting as much as possible outside in the sunshine.

For me, each item HAS to have two matching colour pegs... someone told me that meant I had OCD... I told them RUBBISH! If anything I have CDO because then the letters are in the right order grrrrr

Ardgay

It's not just about the extra few inches, but about the tightness.

Less strain when under a heavy load if there's extra support

Glasgow/London

Repeated strain of a sagging line makes it liable to eventual breach of its elastic limit
