Poor Chat

Have you ever read a profile and thought this person has written so much that they must have some great chat but then after sending a message to them they reply with very little?

At first I assumed that if someone's chat was a bit mince that they just couldn't be bothered with me but I'm not so sure.

Ok, so I'll confess that I am pretty chatty via messages and anyone who's spoken to me will confirm that!

I guess what I'm wondering is how everyone else copes with poor chat?

Do you just give up straight away?

Do you ask the other person why their chat is not? so good? (I usually do this. )

I must confess I have been accused of that by quite a few guys. Truth is I never tend to reply with anymore than a few lines.

Doesn't mean I'm a boring person or not interested though

I tend to think it's a two way thing and if the conversation is interesting and stimulating there's more to say. Even chatty people can be bored into silence....

And that's the thing alot of women and couple profiles request an interesting, well thought out, funny, gripping, enticing message and yet when a guy does that quite often the response doesn't match up.

I won't give specific examples but if I write a few paragraphs and someone replies with just a few words I start to lose interest.

One sided convos are no good.

Everyone is different. They say never judge a book by its cover.....never judge a person on their first conversation.

Most people will be guarded and will only give small bits away until they get to know you.

Sometimes it's best to leave it a while and say hi again......you never know

Also depends on the messages I am getting.

Exactly. This has been my thoughts on this but when I've got fed up and stopped chatting they appear again wanting to chat.. or maybe just read my chat.. I dunno.

I understand guarded to begin with Andy but this is different. I wish I could give you examples.

You can say alot, be friendly and chatty and still give little away about you personally.

Short and sweet. Mainly as 8 get bored easy. If theres to much writing i get bored nd skip to the pictures

If you don't put any effort in to chatting how will you know if they'll "excite your mind."

You could have the best chat in the world but if I'm not attracted to you then its a no go.

I have had so many guys on here message me telling me there different to all the rest because they have good chat.

But its about the whole package for me.

On the flip side, I've done the long, chatty messages, agreed to meet, then the trail goes cold and they don't show, don't message to confirm the night before or the morning of the arranged coffee and it feels like a wasted effort.

There's no perfect answer.

If I find I'm trying to chat to some one and their answers are mince then I just don't chat I don't hope they go away I just don't see the point replying if they no going to put a bit of effort in

On the other hand if some one has good chat you can't shut me up

If I spend time to sit and compose a full message, then send it with a few face pics and full pics attached and in return I get a reply with a very limited short message, then yes, I give up right away. I write them off.

The only acceptation to this is when I receive a short message saying "sorry, I am in a rush, but will get back to you"

in my mind, that is a justified short answer.

If someone does not reply, or replies with a very short message, they are written off immediately. I certainly wont be mailing them again to ask why their "chat is not so good"

This is a bugbear of mine, get a message from somone who likes you...

You look back and are interested enough to reply positively....

You exchange messages, occasionally numbers.... Your getting to the stage of arranging a meet/discussing what may be on or off the menu, finer details of is it going to be a problem arriving dolled up etc?....

im quite chatty at this point and will message in detail, and if theres 2 or 3 things id like clarification on they'll be written im seperate questions in their own paragraphs and they come back with short replies that only answer one thing....

I lose interest completely at this point, i cannot be arsed doing all the legwork in arranging the meet when its them that wanted to meet me in the first place

I've got to admit we can sometimes give short replies. It's almost always with the sort of messages that are more general conversation rather than dircetly asking for meets. If we aren't into them then it seems kinda rude to tell them that when all they're asking is if you had a nice weekend etc. I don't think there's any great way to deal with this though as it could feel like you're leading them on a bit by giving long replies.

Sometimes never sure where to go with chat though.

they are a way of getting to know someone first to see if there is that spark that could lead to a meet.

I'm not a direct person when it comes to asking for a meet as I like to get to know someone a little first.

Never ever started a message with fancy a shag but perhaps that's the way to go

Hate when chat goes dry or even worse becomes one sided. Especially if it was going well beforehand.

If the message is short and unsweet along the lines of 'Hi' or 'wanna chat', that's perfectly understandable, but a well thought out one should at least elicit some sort of response. Good manners cost nout.
