I've been in agony since yesterday with lower back pain, was just bending down to get something off my bed and I felt like someone stuck a knife in me.

Been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen every few hours and some ralgex spray but still sore, any suggestions?

Google yoga for back pain and do some of the moves. It will be sore when you are doing the but it will loosen everything off.

A warm bath. Anything that works for pain relief. Doing butt cheek clenches and slow stomach muscle clenches works for me, recommended by a physio that was, and trying not to sit or lie down for long periods. My mum gave me some tramadol (naughty, i know.and keep well away from the booze if your taking anything like that) and they helped big time. Good luck, its horrible and you have my sympathy.

spasms are awful I broke my back last year and the pain still gets me sometimes I'm not a fan of lots of tablets as they sometimes don't touch it,I'd say a mix of rest and wee bit exercise, lots of movement examples on internet

I had similar a couple of months ago. Ibuprofen and neurofen gel were what I was using. Then I was told about a sports therapist. She's amazing....rubbed the pain out my back. Discovered it's coming from my right glute and gave me stretches to do every morning to ease the build up of tension again.

Hot water bottle and keep moving regularly!

Voltarol has an excellent 12hr gel that you can apply directly to the area! It reduced pain and tackles inflammation. You need to get it from a chemist.

Hope you feel better soon

Abso some lower back problems can come from tight glutes and hamstrings.

How about go and see a professional? No not a Dr, but an osteopath or at least a massage therapist to release then tension!

I get back pain from time to time and very similar to what you've experienced. Whenever I feel like it's going to happen, I book an appointment with an osteopath and they sort it immediately.

Look after your back.

I second the advice to see an osteopath or chiropractor - far better than getting pills from doc (tho if you do do to the doc. ... co codamol 30mg are the way forward! )

£35 for a drop-in session on Blythswood St at Jan-De-Vries, you can crawl in and dance back out, promise. I've been a few times.

You need to call though prior to attending.

Try and keep mobile. Google McKenzie Stretches, and sciatic nerve stretch. Try do ten gently, every hour. Take the painkillers so that you can attempt these stretches. Once you're able, go check out Pilates classes. Prevention is better than cure.

I speak from experience.

Get well soon.

Not to diss the good advice from above, but I would recommend a qualified physio. Google Balanced Physio here in Edinburgh. They do Pilates too.

Also remember that painkillers can kill the pain but in general don't solve a back problem!

Remember that 'pain' is there to remind you to be careful with your movements! And that something is wrong!

So I would suggest not to push the stretches too much if you are under painkillers as you could do more bad than good.

Hope you get this sorted quickly OP

I have done Pilates twice a week for a year now and not had any back pain since (was common before)

Yoga, for me the DDP yoga programme works great, that and naproxen from the doctor. I've seen a huge difference since I started the yoga stretches. s
