A world of my own

Ok...

Love the song.

Often amused the cheesey line about respect in verifications.

Surely its something that should be mutual amongst play partners and that's why communication is so important.

In general every day life I think respect is like trust, its there, it grows, its fragile though. Once lost its hard to get back.

That's something I take for granted, and by that I mean I expect folk to automatically show respect in all aspects of life

I'm with Wyld.

Love the song, Aretha a true legend.

However in real life respect is earned before it is given and cannot be demanded.

Angus & Findhorn

I show respect to people I like, I admire & they conduct themselves to a standard I appreciate. I don't respect some, never will.

I show disrespect to very, very few.

Respect everyone, until they give you a reason not to.

"What does respect mean to you? "

To me it means treating others with tolerance and understanding irrespective of their beliefs, opinions or behaviour towards me or others. It's not always easy cause I'm only human but I always try.

My dad brought me up to believe respect is a 2 way thing, to give respect you have to recieve it. just like manners in life these things cost nothing but mean a great deal

Respect for me is very much an “eye of the beholder” concept.

What one person sees as respectful could be interpreted as disrespectful by another and vice versa.

So if someone behaves as you believe people should behave, that’s a show of respect.

If someone violates your expectations in ways you dislike, you may interpret that as a sign of disrespect and from your perspective, you’d always be right.

By these definitions I could label myself as either highly respectful or highly disrespectful. On the one hand, I definitely pay attention to other people’s beliefs. I certainly don’t ignore how others think, feel and behave.

I often like to delve into someone’s beliefs when I’m getting to know them. So in that sense, I’m very respectful. I consciously observe.

On the other hand, I frequently violate other people’s expectations of how I should behave.

I don’t feel compelled to follow social norms. This is often deliberate. I recognise the expected behaviors and I consciously choose not to adhere to them. To many people this is a very disrespectful thing to do.

One person may love that I like to be honest and direct and may hold me in high regard for that.

Another person may perceive me as being discourteous for the exact same behavior. Within their own frames, they’d both be right.

I was taught respect is earned can't be bought and should always be reciprocated.

I don't agree I think they've evolved and if anything it's just expectations that have changed.

exactly this like language its ever changing and evolving. To many get hung up on expectations. then lose the rag when others dont conform to those expectations
