Gretna wedding

Getting married in Gretna in 2 weeks. Does anyone know how hard it is to get a couple of witnesses?

We heard you can just grab people off the street but is it as simple as that?

Any info would be much appreciated

It is as simle as that, We did it 4 years ago, walked 20 metres across to the shops and the first two people we asked were more than happy to help out. locals are well used to being asked. Have a great day

We got married in Gretna a couple of years ago and when we were in the registry office putting the bands up. We were asked to be witness for a couple which we did.

It is that simple. I used to be a registrar and we often got people off the street. Sure lots of people wandering round Gretna would be over the moon to be witnesses. X

Not a soul when we got wed apart from people who work there. Were told they can not be witnesses, maybe you know different.

I guess I'm in the same boat as you and can only go by my own experiences .

Been there twice and was always people about . The lady who works in there is lovely too .

Been there a few times (not to get married I hasten to add) and its a busy wee place, being a bit of a tourist attraction, so you shouldn't have any trouble

don't you have 2 friends that can join you?

I got married there many moons back, we took two friends down with us and it was a pleasant time shared by all

.

marriage didn't last but was good at the time and produced some wonderful children

They can be witnesses - just some registrars are funny about it! Pretty miserable of them really. I have been a witness when my colleagues did weddings more times than I can remember.

Used to work there upgrading the m74

Went to get a pie at bakers

Ended up a witness to a couple from northern Ireland whose best man missed the ferry

Looked the part in my hi viz and rigged boots

It really really is that simple, and noone bats an eyelid as its normal down there.

We got married there nearly 15 years ago, but only eloped from Lockerbie and took immediate family with us so we had our witnesses anyway x

Just read its the registry office your getting married. Theres shops across the road so you won't have any problems finding someone.
